We have been talking about and working with more fruit this week.  We made fingerprint fruit and with each fingerprint the children named the fruit and its color.  We drew fruit faces as well and the kids thought this was particularly funny.  Please take the time to review them with your children and if you remember, have them name the fruit as you give it to them at home.  Banana - platano, grapes - uvas, watermelon - sandia, orange - naranja, pineapple - pina, strawberry - fresa.

Week 4

Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Thank you to families that helped us ring in the Year of the Rabbit!  Yummy dishes were shared and sweet conversations were had.  It was so great to have everyone for Chinese New Year!

We are excited to offer a complimentary month of a Learn and Grow class that your child is not currently enrolled in.  Please see us for more details.

Classes your child could be participating in:
Art, Hooked On Phonics, Spanish, Dance/Creative Movement, Martial Arts/Fitness, Lego Pre-Engineering, Wiggle, Giggle Rock n' Roll, the list goes on.  Don't miss out!

Also, believe it or not, it is time to reserve your child's spot for the 2011/2012 School Year.  Please be on the look out for your letter explaining the process.

Chinese New Year | Art & Color

PK Strategy Mtg

Star Student - Dylan M was the Star Student this week.  He did such an amazing job

during calendar time. Dylan was so excited to help and he was a really great

leader.

The class worked really well on their  Chinese art work. They made an art dragon mask, paper lantern, and a zodiac sign puppet to name a few. The class really loved learning about all the different ways that people celebrate Chinese New Years.  We also learned about the fifteen days leading up to the big day.

We talked about even and odd numbers.  The class also played the number game, "Who knows what number comes next?" While we did calendar we also talked about when we celebrate New Years and when the Chinese culture celebrates New Years.

As we read about the different dragon

dances the kids loved practicing their own dragon dances during music time. It

was really cute watching how they each expressed themselves.

The letters of the week:  Aa, Zz and Nn.  The class really has come so far with their letters and sounds. They love doing letter time.  We have also started to blend sounds and learning to read certain words.  It has been an exciting week.

Love

Reading PracticeChinese New Year | Art & Color
Gung Hay Fat Choy!  Happy Chinese New year!  That is our theme this week and it has been something worth celebrating.  It has been interesting to learn about Chinese culture.  We have had a good time reading books about china and their new year celebrations, acting like different Chinese zodiac animals and singing songs about dragons.  Then we made rice in a rice cooker to contribute to the school's Chinese new year pot luck.  Super fun and super delicious!

In art, we made dragon puppets.  We are very proud of how hard Jackson worked on his.  We made Lucky red envelopes.  We used white envelopes but we used a red stamp pad and Chinese symbol stamps to decorate the envelopes.  We also made rice pictures with colored rice, glue and glitter.  They were messy to make but a lot of fun too.

We enjoyed the books My First Chinese New Year and Celebrating Chinese New Year.  They taught us a lot about what some families do for their new year's celebrations.  We also read some old favorites this week and I'm happy to report that Ten Up on Top still has everyone glued to their seats.  We read Stone Soup and then wrote our own book to go with it called How Preschool makes Stone Soup.  It is so funny to read what all of the kids have added to the soup.  It's a pretty cute book and if you want to check it out just ask.

Our letter this week was T.  Hey Tegan...that's your letter!  We made T sounds and stood very straight with our arms out like a T.  We read several Franklin books (because he is funny and he is a turtle and turtle begins with T!)  We painted T's and made turtles in art.  Jackson's mom, AKA Ms. Valerie, read us a classic tale of turtles.  She read Yertle the Turtle.  The kids loved it and Henry was very happy that there was a turtle named Mac in the story- just like our Mac.

*****Overheard Conversation*****
Aiden  "I was SO MAD at my dad!"
Cash J. "Why?"
Aiden  "My Dad ate all my pudding!"
Cash J.  "All of your CHOCOLATE pudding?!"
Aiden  "Yes!  And that makes me SO Mad!"

Lesson learned for the week is stay away from Aiden's chocolate pudding.

Chinese New Year2s Letter Blocks

This week in the Two's Class we learned all about Chinese New Year.  We read Happy New Year and Celebrate Chinese New Year.  The children loved to see all of the beautiful pictures of the fireworks, parades, and lantern festivals.

Our letter of the week was, "R" as in "r"ed, which was our color of the week.  We continued the "R" theme when we mad rabbit puppets for the Year of the Rabbit.  Carson, Neve and Riley all enjoyed making puppets with our special guest teacher, Mr. Thomas.

Red lanterns with lots of shiny gold glitter were a favorite project of Adam, Austin and Ava's.  On Wednesday we made dragon puppets.  Audrey, Flynn and Noah marched in their own dragon parade!

Many of our friends are turning 3!  This week Henry celebrated a birthday and next week Carson will turn 3.  Happy Birthday Friends!!!

As always we played pretend restaurant, dress-up, play dough, cars and doll house.  Story, song time and snack are a fun time we all enjoy together.  Thanks for another great week!

Chinese New YearTods Zoie

Goodness, what a fun and lively week our kids had. Everyone was just full of energy, it was wonderful to see.

This week the children dove
into the ancient holiday and tradition of Chinese New Years, and this
year is the year of the RABBIT! Which brings us to our letter this week, "R." The little ones did a marvelous job working together
painting our "R" red! We also made traditional Chinese red envelopes, a Chinese zodiac wreath, a class dragon and colored our own
Chinese dragons. We read China's Bravest
Girl, The Cat in the Hat (which also included a Chinese translation) and some children's books fully written in Chinese characters that the kids loved.  Even though no one could translate, they found them quite fascinating and colorful! Another book we read this week, picked out by our friend, Mia, was The Ribbon Dress. We read that book several times this week. Lastly, everyone came together to create a giant "Gung Hay Fat Choy" mural-poster for the holiday!

Also, before we go, thank you to Kai and her family for bringing in the yummies to celebrate her birthday. Everyone just adores Kai.  She's a very special girl!

Great job to everyone this week.  We are glad everyone had fun!

Love,
Miss Courtney, Miss Olga and Miss Judy.
