We have been talking about and working with more fruit this week.  We made fingerprint fruit and with each fingerprint the children named the fruit and its color.  We drew fruit faces as well and the kids thought this was particularly funny.  Please take the time to review them with your children and if you remember, have them name the fruit as you give it to them at home.  Banana - platano, grapes - uvas, watermelon - sandia, orange - naranja, pineapple - pina, strawberry - fresa.

Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Our apologies for the delay in this week's newsletter.  We encountered a few technical difficulties, one of them being photos - so you will see last week's photos again.  We hope to have everything back to normal this week.  Thanks for your patience.

We are excited to offer a complimentary month of a Learn and Grow class that your child is not currently enrolled in.  Please see us for more details.

Classes your child could be participating in:
Art, Hooked On Phonics, Spanish, Dance/Creative Movement, Martial Arts/Fitness, Lego Pre-Engineering, Wiggle, Giggle Rock n' Roll, the list goes on.  Don't miss out!

Also, believe it or not, it is time to reserve your child's spot for the 2011/2012 School Year.  Please be on the look out for your letter explaining the process.

Celebrating Differences

This week our class learned about Celebrating Differences.

The star was Bodie, he was such a sweet star student. He would ask if other people wanted to be line leader. So sweet!

Writing/ literacy- this week the class learned how to associate spoken/ written language by matching written word labels with spoken words. The letters of the week where, Ll, Qq, Dd & Cc. The class has been reviewing letter sounds and words while adding additional letters. It is a long school year from the beginning to the end so we like to continue to review review review.

Math- the class continued to name and match numerals 10-15 with corresponding quantities. The class learned about what alike and different means on the math world. And finally the class learned about sizes, small, smaller, smallest.

Reading time - during story time the class expressed different possibilities, imaginary or realistic, which listening to Goodnight Giant, Owen & Mzee, I want to be Somebody new, Bigfoot Cinderrrrrella.

Art/ Science- color blending was a big hit in our class this week, the class learn what color red and yellow make, orange, yellow and blue make, green. The class also made a white and black collage. Showing how each student's art work was different and then the class expressed how each collage was different. While they examined the creative art pieces. The class was very detailed with their answers. It was very interesting to listen as a teacher. We loved to watch their wheels turn. Finally the class created a self portrait and them we put them all together and we celebrated each classmates differences.

Music- we practiced our class song, Make New Friends. While singing and listening to music the class played catch with a partner using a large ball. Finally individually they modified their own movements according to the intensity and rhythm of the music.

Social studies - as we celebrated MLK day the class learned and we discussed why this was a holiday and what he did to make a difference in our lives.

Preschool Polar AnimalsCelebrating Differences
This week, we have learned a lot about ourselves and each other during our "celebrating differences" theme.  It was neat to talk about things that we have in common and things that are unique about each of us.  We learned all of the people in class have two eyes but not everyone had the same color and we learned that we all had families but that some people had bigger families and others of us had smaller families.  Same but different.

We learned what an important guy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was.  We looked at pictures of him and talked about how he wanted for  everyone to get along and be kind to one another.  We made collages in art with Dr. King and skin tone paper squares.  Kaden drew the cutest little faces on the squares and it's so funny how Tegan turned his picture into a Star Wars project.

We have been learning about opposites this month.  It has been fun incorporating body movements into learning these concepts.  We can make our bodies big and then make them small.  We can clap quickly and slowly.  We can stick our tongue out and then put them back in.

Our letter this week is S!!! S is for sparkly S snakes, which we made.  We also painted S's with sponges and practiced making S sounds.  We read the book Smelly Socks.  It was very silly and after the story, we smelled our own socks.  Everyone had OK smelling socks but Hannah told us that "Diapers are smelly."  Hannah may be right about that.

Thanks Brodie for the puzzle donation.  The kids in class have been loving using the shape pieces.

Thanks Jackson's dad, Mr. Brian for reading stories to us this week.  It was super fun to have you and everyone enjoyed touching all the puppies, kitties and other animals in the stories.

Happy Birthday Neil.  You have so many friends and are such a fun guy!

Polar Animals2s Sadie

This week in the two's class we finished up our study of polar animals. We made polar bear masks and penguins out of paper plates. Of course there was a lot of glue, paint and string involved. Our letter of the week was Q, and Claire, Adam, Carson and Hailey had a great time painting it purple, our color of the week. We learned that queen, quarter and quiet all start with the letter Q. On Tuesday we enjoyed our weekly "Wiggle and Giggle" class taught by Ms. Stacy. This is a fun time when we get to play with the parachute, musical instruments, and follow a fun obstacle course. Play dough, dress up and making a pretend restaurant all continue to be favorite activities for the children. We closed our class each day with the little linguist program. This is a fun interactive game the children love to play in English, French, and Spanish. Next week we look forward to learning all about Chinese New Year, the letter R, and the color red.

OppositesTods Grant

This week in our Toddler Class we talked about and discovered
opposites. First off, our letter this week was "Q" and the children
painted our little purple and then after it dried we put on 'q'uarters!
We spent our week talking about opposite emotions, using various
facial expressions and viewed the topic of differences by mixing
different colors together to create something different byt beautiful!
While discussing these topics our class read: "Thomas The Tank
Engine-Opposites," "Rainbow Fish," "What Makes a Rainbow" "COLORS? and
"Rainbow Fish." Also, we'd like to say Happy Birthday to Yush's big
brother, Neil, who shared his awesome and yummy cupcakes with us!
Thank you Neil!!
