Polar Animals
This week in Pre-K we had an icy blast studying Polar Animals! The children were fascinated by how these animals are able to survive in the cold and the types of food they eat. Ask them how many they can name, we are sure you will be impressed!
We worked on writing our numbers, and the letters of the week were "Bb", "Pp", and "Aa". We also practiced our alphabet with a penguin dot-to-dot. Bodie is so proud of his improvements in his numbers. He loves to show us after each line.
Math involved sorting and some addition and subtraction. Pearl is so quick and and always adds a witty response to questions!
Our icebergs and igloos turned out so great! Using sugar cubes was quite a challenge as the kids wanted to eat them more than build with them! The polar bears now have a lovely habitat and the kids have a great paper winter hat created by stacking stripes and gluing them together.
Our penguin song was a big hit and this week we got to play with bubbles as well. Logan and Aidan love music and watching the children dance warms our hearts.
Reading is always a favorite. We all get together in the library and Ms. Stacy reads to us. This week we read Polar Animals and What They Eat, Penguin Loses her Cool, BRRRRRR, and Happy Feet. For the first time we started and finished a chapter book and they were always very excited the next day to continue where we left off the day before. Olive made a big "ahhhhhhhhhhh" sound everytime we finished for the day and Ashleigh and Grace would plead for just "one more page?"
We worked with blocks, legos, playdough, gears and snowflake rubs. The building the children accomplish has grown by leaps and bounds! Open-ended toys are always the best as everytime they sit down with them a completely different creation is born.

Polar Animals
Polar bears, penguins and preschoolers! Oh My! This week we stayed "cool" exploring polar animals. Actually, being polar animals was the thing the kids loved the best about this week. Monica does a great penguin walk and Willie is an exceptional polar bear. Anytime Willie can be something scary, he really jumps in and goes for it. The penguin belly slide was super fun. The kids all looked so cute and happy sliding around the classroom floor. This would be a good time to apologize for any dirty little bellies this activity may have caused but it was pretty adorable.
We read some very informative books this week, such as Where Polar Animals Hide
(Palmer really liked that the Caribou hid their babies at the center of the herd.) We also read What Polar Animals Eat. When we learned that penguins ate fish, Mac informed us that he "caught a fish. It wasn't a small one." But our favorite stories this week were the silly ones like The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly and Where's my Mommy.
In art, we learned that polar bears have black skin under their thick white fur. We made our own furry polar bears. Ellie F. reluctantly gave one of her polar bears a little bit of cotton ball fur but left one of the bears hairless. He is going to be so cold at the north pole, brrrrrrr. We also made penguins and snowy day pictures.
Our letter this week was R. We have three friends this week that start with R. Reeve, Rylee and Rory. Rory is doing such a good job writing her R's and can even make an R with her body! Super Cool. We made Red pictures this week. Amelia spent 20 minutes working on hers. I love how she drew red dots all over one side and then painted the other side. It is fabulous. We also decorated R's with ribbons. We talked about the different textures and our favorite colors. Favorite colors is a big thing these days in preschool.
We had a lot of Duck fans at school on Monday and kids had on their green and gold to represent. Nolan got the kids started in a round of quack quacking and it was a pretty good time had by all.
Thank you Jackson's mommy, Ms. Valerie for reading to us this week. It is always fun.
Welcome to our class, Charles. We are happy to have you join us this year!

Polar Animals
What a fun and busy week we enjoyed in the two's class. We continued our learning of arctic animals, and enjoyed many books, songs, and activities related to them. Riley,Noah,Austin and Flynn made polar bears out of their handprints. They had a great time using their fingers to add snow to finish off the project. The class also made paper plate penguin buddies. This was a fun project that required a lot of prep work. Neve had a great time lending her talents to this craft. Look for all these cute projects decorating our classroom. On Tuesday we took a wiggles and giggles class. I can assure you, Adam, Spencer, Neve, and Ava all enjoyed many wiggles and giggles. We continued with the letter P as in penguin, pink and polka dots. We decorated Pink P's with purple polka dots and laughed as we tried to say that fast. Ask your kids to sing our new song with you, they love it. Hint," If you are happy and you know it." Thanks to Miss Olga, Miss Suzie, and Miss Janine who have all helped in our class over the past few weeks. We welcome Miss Nicole back on Monday and can't wait to show her all we have learned and done. Looking forward to another great week with all your kids.

This week we have been learning about Polar Animals. One of our art projects was "Polar Bear" handprints. They loved getting their hands painted and seeing them turn into polar bears! We sang about polar bears and penguins. As we sang the class enjoyed dancing around. They love learning new songs! Their favorites of course, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," and "Ring Around the Rosie," which they all get up and dance their little hearts out! January is off to a great start!!! |
