Spanish with Maestra Stacy | |

This week in Spanish included an overview of the past 3 months. It included a review of colors, numbers and our songs. The children loved doing what they are familiar with and I was impressed with their retention and enthusiasm. They are so excited to learn about food and restaurants!! Included in this week was a table setting that included a 'plato', plate - 'tenedor', fork - 'cuchara', spoon - 'cuchillo', knife. We had the best time pretending to go for a picnic and setting the table. Please quiz your child and ask for the above items at dinner. It makes a HUGE difference.

Happy New Year!
Theme of the week Cold Climates
Star Student of the week, was Leah. The hit of being the star student is feeding Sparkle. Leah has also loved being the line leader. The class has really enjoyed her great leadership!
Writing/Literacy - The letters of the week are Cc, Uu and Zz. While learning the sounds and other words that start with the letters of the week, we read Umbrellabird's Umbrella. The class has also worked on their zigzag and crisscross strokes. The class also worked on familiar rhymes, poems and songs while finishing with the correct rhyming word. They also assumed different role/perspective and expressed the different possibilities, if it imaginary or realistic.
Reading - The class really enjoyed listening to the books, White Snow Bright Snow, The First Day of Winter, Happy Feet and Where Polar Animals Live.
Art - Cold Climates really caught the classes attention. We have learned how much they enjoy the snow and talking about the snow. During art this week, the class painted, discussed their art piece of their choice and told the story and details behind it. The class made really neat projects. They each created a 3D snowman, sugar cube igloos, cold climates scene and a warm winter hat.
Social Studies - The class talked and learned about where in the world it is cold. They talked about and learned the different temperatures of the mountain, jungle, and an island by creating a temperature chart.
Math - The class learned about dividing and how to divide an object into approximate equal pieces for two people, while working on even and odds numbers and what makes them even or odd. Also, the class named and match numerals 1-10 with corresponding quantities.

Cold Climate
This week's "cold climate" theme has been a wintry blast! We have enjoyed talking, reading, crafting, and imagining about snow. One of the cutest things we did this week was a snowball walk. The kids were magically transformed into snowballs before we walked from class to other places we happen to be going. The kids were so funny all puffed up and slowly moving like snowballs. Kaden can puff up his cheeks and eyes so huge, it's hard not to giggle at his tremendous snowball walk. We made some adorable snowman pictures in art and our Tuesday mommy reader, Ms. Valerie, read The Biggest Snowman. Thanks for reading to us Ms. Valerie. The kids love it!
In science, we even made snow! OK, it was fake snow but it was still really cool! The kids enjoyed saying sodium polyacrylate (Brodie shouted it out loud and proud!) and with the addition of water, we had snow worthy of ooooos and ahhhh's. We all felt it and talked about how it felt. Rylee, very charmingly said "I think it feels nice."
When it is cold out, mittens are very useful thing to have around. We practiced sorting and counting by matching mitten pairs. In art, we folded wet paintings in half to make two symmetric sides which made nice pairs of mittens. We learned a new mitten poem and read a very cute story called One Mitten.
In math, we had dominoes and bears to sort into colors. Monica set up her dominoes and said "I made a whole pattern!" and guess what? She sure did!
Our letter this week is the quite quaint letter Q. We painted Q's with Q-tips and made paper quilts for the queen. We loved playing "quick and quit". The kids enjoyed running in place so quickly until they saw the quit sign. Then everyone hit their brakes and stopped. So funny!
A big warm welcome to Reeve. We are excited you are joining our class!
Welcome back, Amelia! It's so wonderful to have you here!
Great first day, Finley! Yahoo, you are growing up so much!
A huge happy birthday to our buddy Nolan!!! Thank you so much for bringing in goodies to share and letting us share in your celebration!

How fun and busy the past two weeks have been in our two's class. We rang in the new year by celebrating Finley's 3rd birthday. We all made celebration crowns and enjoyed a fun treat. Thanks for celebrating with us Finley. We have been busy transforming our classroom into a winter wonderland. Ava, Claire, Paige and Adam all enjoyed decorating mittens with colorful glitter. The entire class helped paint a beautiful winter landscape for all of us to enjoy. It turned out so well, we made a second one to hang in the hall. What a class of little artists we have. We finished off the week by reading Snowmen at Night, by Caralyn Buehner. This is a fun tale about the antics of snowmen while the kids are sleeping. Neve, Flynn, Adam, Austin and Audrey all enjoyed creating snowmen out of cotton, complete with hat, scarf, and carrot nose. Look for these adorable snowmen in our class. As always the children love to dress up and dance to all kinds of music. If your child has a favorite CD please bring it in to share, we are always looking for new music. A special treat on Mondays has been to join teacher Shannon for her "Wiggles and Gigggles" class. The kids love this fun class filled with music and movement, thanks teacher Shannon. As always we feel so lucky to get to have all your children in our class.

Happy New Year to all our Toddler families.
This was our first week of 2011 and we are learning about animals that live in cold climates, polar bears and penguins. The letter this week is "P" and our color is blue. As we watch your little ones grow up, we notice the little things they like to do like help put the snacks out and put the chairs away. This week we would like to thank Cannen and Maren for helping us out! As we do our music, Lucy, Brooklyn and Caroline had a ball dancing around. It is a joy to watch all of them grow.
We are looking forward to this brand new year and helping your little ones learn and have fun!
