Spanish focused on counting to 50 (cinquenta) and getting our song ready for the big show. We also began learning our body parts. They love guessing correctly and often race to say the correct word first. |

Celebrations Around the World
Our Holiday Show was such a blast! For those that missed it we sang "Feliz Navidad'", complete with shakers and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Leah really stood out as a star on stage and all of the parents were so impressed that the kids knew all the words. We are so very proud of them and more importantly they had fun!
Math consisted of addition and subtraction using the countdown to the holidays. Excitement is in the air anticipating the upcoming festive times and we have been focusing on what the holidays really mean, not just the getting but the giving and how we can help and appreciate others in our lives.
In Science we learned the principle of solid to liquid. We used Frosty the Snowman as the example and brainstormed ways to keep him "alive."
Our journals are filling up as we practiced writing our names. Take the time to practice at home and know that we are teaching them that the first letter is uppercase and the rest are lowercase. (ie:Stacy) Watching them master their writing makes us smile and many high-fives are given on a daily basis.
We read stories about Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah and winter. Logan and Aidan loved that children get a gift a day if they celebrate Hanukkah.
Art is always a favorite in class. This week we decorated trees, made Kwanzaa mats, an enormous paper chain that encircles our room (Ashton made the largest contribution), and shiny scratch ornaments. We love getting messy but fun is the priority!!

Celebrations Around the World
This week we continued to learn about "Celebrations around the World." It has been fun to learn what other people around the world are doing or will be doing to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Solstice and Kwanzaa. However the biggest topic of conversation has been led by the children. There has been much excitement due to trees, Santa and everyone's favorite reindeer, Rudolf.
We have spent a lot of our time this week singing. We sang lots of holiday songs like Jingle Bells (a hands-down favorite) and Rudolf. Parker spent a lot of time just singing as she played. Parker always seems to have songs pouring out of her. We also practiced for the Holiday program quite a bit. We worked on "the chubby little snowman" poem and the Dreidel song. It is so cute to see all the kids' heads bobbing along to the music. Ms. Angie didn't even realize that her head bobbed so much until the kids did it. The holiday program was very cute. All the kids were adorable. You really can not get too many little boys in sweater vests. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it.
We read some great stories this week including The Runaway Dreidel, Merry Christmas Mom and Dad, and Santa's Kwanzaa. We also wrote another book called I like to Celebrate because... The kids enjoy reading the books they have written and illustrated. This week, Cash was reading our Favorite Nutritious Foods book from November and was so excited when he found his page. He shouted "I made this."
Holiday art is always fun. We made Christmas wreaths. We painted shoe shapes because in France kids receive presents from Pere Noel (Father Christmas) in their shoes. We began making a big paper chain. It is tricky to do. Many of the kids were able to contribute paper rings to the group project but a few of the kids like Caroline and Ellie B. were able to make chains. Our goal is to get a chain long enough to go across the classroom. We will continue working on it next week.
Our letter this week was O. O is for our friend Olivia's name. It is also for Otter, Olives (we ate some olives-yum), and Octopus. Octopuses are cool. We got to "grow" an Octopus in science this week. It has been really neat to watch it be a little bigger each day. The kids are very excited. Palmer asks about it often. We read Octopus and Me and sang the "slippery fish" song because it has an octopus in it. It will be neat to see if the Octopus grows much over the weekend. We will have to check on Monday morning!ca
Happy Birthday to Caroline this week. Caroline turned 4 and everyone enjoyed the little party we had for her. You are a sweet smart girl, Caroline. ****random cute moment of the week**** One day this week on the way to the bathroom, we found a spider on the wall. Everyone was very excited by this but everyone was also very kind to the spider. We used quiet voices and didn't touch the spider so that we could watch it. Then Lauren said, "I know, we could sing a song to it." So the kids were asked what song they knew about spiders. Yep, we sang the "itsy bitsy spider" song to a spider. SO GREAT!!!! |

Happy Holidays, Twos Families!
This week, we have been continuing our discussions about holiday traditions, talking about everything from singing carols and learning about reindeer to eating candy canes and making gingerbread houses. The class has been practicing for their vocal performance of "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" everyday and performed on Thursday evening during the Thursday Peake Academy holiday party. Noah, Ava, Adam, Finley, Claire, Maddie, Spencer, Ellie, and Neve have all enjoyed making Christmas tree ornaments this week. Reindeer candy canes and popsicle snowflakes were a big hit, as were "writing" and "mailing" our own Christmas cards. Our classroom restaurant is still in full swing and gets all of the students putting on aprons and "taking orders" from each other. (I am still waiting for my chicken caesar salad, but the children said that they didn't have any salad at their restaurant, so oh well!) Riley and Hailey built some impressive towers together, while Flynn, Adam, and Austin worked hard on their own "buildings." Finally, Claire, Noah, Maddie, Sadie, Ellie, and Finley all took turns dancing with one another dressed in their finest to Tony Bennett's greatest hits. (Your children love the classics!) We certainly do have fun with them, and we are so glad to be their teachers.
We wish you a happy holiday season!

Burrr it's cold out there!!! But, our class was warm and toasty this week and full of Toddler fun as we continued ourexploration and decoration in Holiday Traditions. From practicing and finally performing our class songs, which was quite wonderful to say the least, way to raise the roof little ones, and what a great turn out for our class! To continuing to decorate our class Christmas tree with more ornaments and now stars!! We did lots of coloring of pictures of how children across the globe celebrate the holiday season, as well as making festive wreaths! Our letter this week was 'M' and was decorated with Monopoloy Money!!! Hehehe, it was quite fun. Our colors are still green and red and the class made a wreath for the classroom door (painted their hands red and green) the kids love love LOVE to paint, especially handprints! We read a collection of holiday treat like: Sheila Rae's Peppermint Stick, Olive the other Reindeer, The Mitten, The Hat, and The Three Snow Bears. We are so proud of our class this week, everyone had big smiles and happy and cheerful laughs, if we were Santa, all of the kids would be on the nice list! Our friend Isaac has been our constant class reminder about "Santa" and how he says "ho ho ho." Next week we wrap up our last week of holiday fun and just a reminder families, no class NEXT Friday. |
