 Celebrations Around the WorldTable Time

Star Student - Arianna! She has been very excited to be star student this week,
she has been a great leader and very friendly to her classmates.

Writing - The letters of the week are Jj and Kk. The class has been working hard
practicing writing their letters of the week in their journals. The class has come so far at writing letters and their names. The class has practiced writing many different writing strokes. Straight lines, curved lines, and dangle lines.
The class has had so much fun learning new words for each letter of the week. While we talk about all the different words for Jj and Kk, we read a book for each letter that helps the class learn even more words for each letter of the
week. The two books are, Kangaroo Kazoo and Jaguars Jamboree.

Social Studies/ Art - The class has learned a lot this week about all the different ways other countries celebrate the holidays. We have talked about traditions for Africa, Mexico, The United States, and Israel. While explaining the
different traditions for celebrating the holidays in different parts of the world,  we have created an art project so the class understands and can visually see different symbols. The class made beautiful menorahs, Christmas trees, pinatas and a placemat (mkeka) for Kwanzaa.

Math -  The class worked on matching and counting objects on Christmas socks,
worked on a dot to dot Christmas tree, while counting shapes and writing the correct number of shapes on the Christmas tree. During calendar time we have been counting down the days until Christmas. The class has really been enjoying the count down.  It is super cute to see how excited the class is for Christmas.

Reading - The class has loved listening to the stories, Snowie Olie, White Snow, Bright Snow, DW's Perfect Present and Stella Queen of the Snow.

Music - The class is perfecting their songs for the performance.  They have really been working hard on learning the words and adding instruments to the songs. They are doing really well and have been having a lot of fun with the
instruments.

Circle TimeCelebrations Around the World
In our first weekly installment of the Celebrations around the World theme, we have mostly been focusing on things happening close to us.  The kids have enjoyed sharing their current experiences of Christmas and Hanukkah.  We have been hearing all kinds of personal stories about trees, lights, Rudolf and Santa.  There is even a closet with presents inside of one of the children's' homes.  "You can't look inside," we were instructed and since it apparently is a secret, we will not say who told us about this present closet.
We have read some great stories including Chanukah Bugs by David A. Carter, Santa's Kwanzaa, and Merry Christmas, Mom and Dad!  The kid's especially loved Chanukah Bugs because we got to see what was inside pretty presents.  Caroline was even able to remember what was in a few of the packages the second time she heard the story.  What a great memory you have, Caroline!  The class also made our own picture book called Holiday Lights.  Henry's Christmas tree illustration was super cute and Olivia drew a very sweet picture of herself, her Mom and her Dad all holding hands.
We have been singing holiday songs (including the songs for our holiday program.)  We love listening to the kids sing "Jingle Bells" and other holiday classics.  They love the "Dreidel Song" especially when we get to practice spinning a real dreidel.  It is quite tricky and no one can make it spin for as long as Mr. Thomas can.  Lauren gets very excited about singing The "Dreidel Song" and always stands up to sing it.  (we also caught her doing the cutest thing in the house area the other day.  Lauren blew out all of the candles from the paper menorah decoration- how cute!)  It is also very fun to spin our bodies like dreidels.  We tend to get a little dizzy and, like a real dreidel, we fall down.  It is very silly.
In art, the kids have made several cute holiday projects.  They decorated paper "packages" with ribbons, Christmas trees with stars and pom-pom balls and made some very cute paper menorahs.
Our letter of the week is N!  We have three friends whose names begin with N.  Yahoo for Natalie, Neil and Nolan!!!!!   We made Noodley N's and painted night skies for some very fun N art.  We also practiced writing N's.
Happy Birthday to Kaelen!  It is so great to have you in class Kaelen and now you are a big 4 year old!  Yeah!!!!

Holiday TraditionsBoys with Babies
Happy Holidays to our Twos families!

We have been busy discussing "Holiday Traditions" in our Twos classroom, learning all about Christmas trees, gingerbread, candy canes, holiday wreaths, twinkle lights, reindeer, jingle bells, Santa Claus, and the illuminated candles of Hanukkah. Hailey, Paige, Riley, Audrey, and Ava created their own holiday wreaths bedecked with a candy cane of their choosing and ready to hang up at home, while Sadie, Maddie, Ellie, and Adam chose to roller paint a classroom Christmas tree, bedecked with sparkles and shine.  Our pretend classroom restaurant was open for business again as well this week in our kitchen area, with Noah, Finley, and Austin taking orders and serving up home-cooked meals to the girls.  We also read The Gingerbread Baby  (a classroom favorite!) and decorated our own gingerbread men.  A pleasant surprise on Friday was the arrival of a class book made for us from our pen pals, a Threes class at the International School of Prague!  We enjoyed reading the book they made for us and talking about how alike we all are.

Hope you enjoy your weekend!  See you next week as we continue our holiday celebrations.

Celebrations Around the WorldSticker Fun

It is the greatest time of year for our Toddler class. We are starting
to ring in the holiday season in various and fun ways! From making colorful snowflakes and goofy gingerbread men to painting our very own class Christmas tree complete with ornaments, angels and stars! We
even made holiday cards, wow, we were busy! You can tell the little ones are ready to deck the halls and jingle some bells!!! This week our
wee ones read an assortment of festive treasures like, Pip & Squeak, The Jingle Bell Ball, The Polar Express, Gingerbread Baby and Biscuit's Pet & Play Christmas.  Of course our class sung and learned a ton of holiday tunes. From "Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer" to the
"Dreidel Song." Our letter this lovely week was "L" as was decorated it with...LIGHTS! Holiday lights of course. Our current focus colors are
red and green, and our class painted a large festive Christmas mural for the occassion. ALSO, we had yet another birthday. Our buddy and one of little charmers, Isaac turned the awesome age of TWO! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISAAC! Thursday he brought us yummy cookies and was not shy at all telling everyone his age. Also, we'd like to share the our little friend, Avery has made a lot of progress in class since she has been here. We are so very pleased to see her come into class with a grin and playing with all the children. The kids have all changed so much, already, since September! It's amazing.
