This week in Spanish we are working on the days of the week.  The new song we are learning is to the "Adam's Family" theme song.  They love it!  The children have now mastered their colors.  Make sure to take the time to ask them the colors in Spanish.  The effort they have put into learning   them is priceless.

Week 3

Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Regularly scheduled programming has been interrupted to bring you this special bulletin.....

Turkeys let loose at Peake Academy / PLAY Boutique!  The sounds of gobbling were heard down the halls as turkeys paraded around the school in honor of all the people in their lives that do so much for them!!!

Thank you for the families that were able to join us for our 1st Annual Turkey Trot and Community Feast.  While we were not able to parade around the community, we did not let the rain dampen our spirits.  We trotted around the school and had an absolutely marvelous time!!!  The food brought to the Community Feast was amazing!!!!  We could start a catering business with the talents of our families, WOW!!!

Art - In art we have been doing so many great projects about nutrition. The class made a really yummy fruit bowl, while practicing their cutting and
coloring. Also we made a very bright strawberry with each student's fingerprints making the black seeds. We also could not forget about our turkey trot, so we made turkey hats and Pilgrim hats for the parade. Finally, we made a
delicious cheese, olive, and mushroom pizza.

Math - In math the class counted fruit while matching the correct number to the correct amount of objects. The class also worked on counting and adding during our
calendar time. The class loved counting pennies during small group time working on counting up to 30. Finally the class continues to work on writing their numbers and being able to visually recognize each number up to 15.

Cooking - The class prepared their own grilled cheese sandwich by buttering the
bread and placing the cheese on the bread, while Ms. Stacy and Ms. Lindsi finished
the grilled cheese by grilling each student's sandwich.

Writing - The class talked about words that start with letters Nn and Tt ( the letters of the week)  and the sounds that the letters of the week make. The class is working really hard on writing their letters both capital and lower
case. The class is also working on staying in between the lines and using the correct spacing.  Finally, the class continues to work on the format of writing a letter for Thanksgiving.

Social Studies - While we did not get to parade around the block in honor of our community due to the weather, we did parade around the school. The kids loved wearing their hats and walking in a parade.

Reading -

Music -  Songs that we learned for Thanksgiving are: " I am a stuffed turkey"
and " I ate to much at Thanksgiving Dinner" while pretending they were turkeys
wobbling around.

Preschool Turkey Trot 1Nutrition & Cooking

We sure cooked up some fun with this week's "Cooking and Nutrition" theme.  We enjoyed learning about healthy foods and cooking safety.
We found food oriented projects to be fun.  We made spaghetti art out of yarn, paper and "sauce" paint.  Caroline said she liked meatballs so she included lots and lots of meatballs on her project.  As a class we made a book called Favorite Healthy Foods.  The kids always enjoy our class books and it's always fun to see what the kids have to say.  Monica and Kaden both said "bell peppers" were their favorites and Tegan said "French fries."  Maybe French fries aren't the healthiest food but his French fry illustration is so great!
We had a great time using cookbooks and cooking delicious meals in the dramatic play area.  Lauren's carrot muffins are to die for and Mason makes a wonderful cucumber juice.  But do you know what is even more fun than pretending to make something to eat?  Making something REAL to eat!  We used a rice cooker to cook some rice.  It was exciting to come back from recess and have a nice rice snack.  Almost everyone likes rice.  We also made a wonderful fruit salad for Wednesday's pot luck.  We had a little lesson about food and knife safety.  When we washed our hands and the fruit.  Ellie B. cut the tiniest little pieces of strawberries. Hannah cut several slices of pear, though none of the slices actually went through it.  Neil was eager to cut a bit of everything and did a good job making similarly sized pieces.  We put all of the fruit into a bowl and even managed to get all of the strawberry stems out (I hope).  Ellie F. was pretty excited when we put yogurt on top and then mixed it in.  I was so proud of everyone (kids and grownups) who was brave enough to try it.  Cash even asked for more.
We read several food stories including The Bear Who Didn't Like Honey and class favorite The Little Mouse, The Big Hungry Bear and the Red Ripe Strawberry.  We read Hi Pizza Man.  It is a very funny and interactive book.  It's the kind of story that encourages a lot of shouting and giggling.  When asked what would be said to a pizza woman (instead of a pizza man) Palmer stated "No, Thank You!"
We learned the song "I like to eat apples and bananas" this week.  The best part of it is when we get to replace all of the vowel sounds with one vowel sound.  We practiced making an OOOO or AHHHH sound for example and then sing it again.  We end up enjoying things like eeeplees eeend beeeneeeneees and iplis ind bininis.
K was the letter of the week this week.  We made pictures of keys and acted like kittens.  The kittens were so sweet. Of course Monica and Willie both insisted on being puppies but they were sweet puppies too.  We have two friends this week who have names that begin with K.  Kaden and Kaelen both have K names.  And with all of the cooking we have been doing we can't forget that kitchen also begins with K.

Thank you to all of the families who contributed to the Wednesday's potluck and to all of you who were able to come in and spend some time with us.  The turkey trot was so fun and silly.  Now this part is just between you and me but didn't you think "our kids" were the cutest?!  Yeah, I thought so too!

ThanksgivingTwos Turkey Trot
Hello Twos families!

We had a fantastic week talking "turkey" as we learned about
Thanksgiving, where the holiday comes from, and what it means to be "thankful" for something. We were able to look at pictures of Native American tribes who wear feather headdresses, and make ones just like it in time for our first annual Peake Academy Turkey Trot. The rain
didn't stop our two-year-olds from strutting their stuff around the
school in all their fine-feathered glory! Ava, Adam, Ellie, Noah,
Riley, and Hailey gobble-gobbled underneath their feather headdresses and enjoyed the fine potluck buffet brought by our fabulous parents with all the trimmings! (Ms. Nicole wants to know who made those awesome popovers and get the recipe...) Later in the week Finley and Sadie painted with feathers and found them to be quite a useful art tool. The children have also enjoyed playing "restaurant" and made a pretend Thanksgiving banquet for Ms. Olga. Maddie, Austin, and Noah even prepared a turkey for the banquet as well as side dishes (Yum!) We have also enjoyed playing "post office" and delivering mail to one another. Our class really loves to pretend play, which is excellent for their development and social skills.

See you next week as we celebrate more Thanksgiving traditions!

Native AmericansToddler Turkey Trot

In honor of our favorite turkey time, Thanksgiving, the Toddler class dove into the unique and diverse world of Native Americans. Monday, the kids made colorful and vibrant dream catchers, which were a favorite
among our art projects last year. Also, this week we made Indian headdresses with various colored feathers, did feather paintings with all
sorts of colors and decorate our letter of the week, J, with jewels.
Our color is still green and this week our Toddlers did a collage of green circles. The kids are doing a great job recognizing colors and
now shapes, it's amazing!! As you know,Wednesday was our Turkey Trot
and not to have favorites, but the Toddlers were simply adorable parading around the school with their headdresses dawned. Good job class! For Thanksgiving we learned a dozen new holiday songs, from "Five Fat Turkeys" to a funny "Gobble Song!" As we head near our
Turkey break, us Toddler teachers would like to share how thankful we are of having such wonderful kids, parents and families among us.
Next week, before we head off to break we will be continuing our Native American theme!

By the way families, ask your little ones to sing the "ABC's" or "Itsy Bitsy Spider" with you, they are so good at it, as well as
"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!" Music time is by far the kids favorite time of the day, besides snack time of course! It seems to make everyones' day a bit better when the music turns on and the instruments come out!
