This week in Spanish we are working on the days of the week. The new song we are learning is to the "Adam's Family" theme song. They love it! The children have now mastered their colors. Make sure to take the time to ask them the colors in Spanish. The effort they have put into learning them is priceless. |

Star Student - Grace
Writing/Literacy: The letters of the week are A and N. The class learned what A and N sound like, as they learned words that start with the letters of the week. The class also worked on formatting a thank you letter, which the class will be completing a thank you letter for Thanksgiving, expressing their thanks to those they are thankful for. Finally, the class learned how to identify the beginning, middle and end of a story, while being able to change the ending with their own imagination.
Math: In math the class reviewed learning numbers 1-15 and grouping objects according to the numbers. The class was given an oral number and each student created groups with corresponding number of objects. The class is also learning about even and odd numbers using our number of the week, which is the date.
Music: It was very cute to see the class learn the Mac-arena with Ms. Stacy. The Pre-K are some serious dancers. We also learned the song "1 little, 2 little, 3 little Indians." They also love to sing our fall song, " The leaves are falling down."
Social Studies: The class has been very interested learning about the Native American's life style and culture. From where they lived, how they ate, what they did for fun, and how they survived.
Art: The class made a tee-pee out of straws and construction paper and they built a canoe while learning about why and how the Native Americans used these items. Finally, the class made a totem pole, showing the different symbols that represented Native Americans.
Reading: The class really enjoys story time and learning about each part of the story and how to label them. (beginning, middle and end). The stories we read, where, The Nutty Nut Chase, and The Nicest Newt.
Great Week Pre-K!

Native American Culture
This week, we took a look at Native American culture. We beaded, played with clay, painted, worked with feathers and stones, told stories and danced. I think we learned a bit too! In art, we made some cool projects. We made totem poles like those from tribes from the Pacific Northwest. Palmer was really excited because any project involving a tube is a good project in his book. We made wigwams out of bowls and paper bag pieces to represent those made by the Wampanoag tribe in Northeastern United States. The Wampanoag tribe was the tribe that befriended the Pilgrims so long ago. We made tipis like the ones Indigenous people from the plains lived in. We also drew designs on them using crayons and then painted over them with tea to have a lovely wax resist effect and learn about using natural materials for dyes and paints. We also made some very cool Native American masks. We listened to stories this week that did not have pictures. We had to make the pictures with our minds using our imaginations. We heard about The Moon and the Great Snake. The kids did a great job listening. Neil is a great story teller also. Most of his stories are about dinosaurs or sharks. We did a lot of counting in math this week. We counted both feathers and stones in small group and individual projects. As a group, we counted to 100! We did a lot of dramatic big breaths between number sets. It was all very exciting and we clapped appropriately when we reached 100! Mason really enjoyed this (both the counting and the big breaths). We are so proud of everyone for their stamina. It takes a long time to count to 100! Our letter of the week was J. J is for Jackson who wasn't even able to be at school this week. (We miss you Jackson. Hope your leg gets feeling better so that you can come play with us.) We played a super fun game called "jump for J." We drew card and if it was a J, we would jump, jump, jump, jump, jump and sit. If it was not a J, we would say "noooooooooo' It was super fun. Ellie B. was very happy every time we drew and E and would exclaim "E is for Ellie". We also did jumping jacks this week because anytime you can get a whole bunch of kids to do jumping jacks at the same time is going to be a good time. Thank you to all of you who have taken things out of the "parent volunteer" box that appears every once in a while. Your extra help is greatly appreciated and is super fantastically nice. Thanks! ***super cute alert*** Palmer was so awesome helping Brodie with his shoes this week. So quietly helpful, without being asked. Palmer saw someone needing help and helped. It's the kind of thing that brings a happy little tear to the eye and a little hop skip song in your heart. This is why we work with children! Thank you all for letting yours spend the day with us!

Dear Families:
Hello from your child's Twos classroom! We have had an exciting week extending our inquiry of "Families" and studying "Houses and Homes." Hailey and Finley had fun building their own "houses" out of recycled boxes, while Ava enjoyed talking about all of the things she likes to do with her mommy and family. Maddie, Carson, Audrey, Riley, and Ellie enjoyed playing "house" this week by giving each of our baby dolls a bath, and everyone in class was intrigued with looking at themselves as well as each other with our hand-held mirrors. We had building galore going on as well, as we tackled building homes out of our different types of blocks. Jack was our classroom "architect" and built some amazing towers! Flynn, Austin, and Henry zoomed around the classroom highway with our toy cars during the week, and Adam and Noah and cooked yummy concoctions with our green Play dough to celebrate our color of the week, "green." We ended our week discussing everything we like to do with our families and playing with "insect" stamps to celebrate our letter of the week, "I." Thank you to everyone who has given us their family pictures, and if you haven't done so, there is still time! See you next week! |

What a week our Toddler Family had! We were certainly busy this week, to say the least, wrapping up our second week of Family Fun. We continued to do various art projects (again this week) on our focus color: green; such as a large collage decorated with green triangles cut from different materials. I must say, these little ones never hold back on getting down to business with painting and gluing, their sweet little faces always look so adorable after we do our class art projects that they look like their own pieces of art themselves. This week our letter was "I" and to decorate I what did we use? INSECTS of course. We rubber stamped some cute little guys on to our class I and of course we did it in green! Also, this week we made houses out of cardboard boxes and talked about families and acted out roles with the baby dolls in our class. We had such good moms and dads in our class, so sweet to their pretend babies. This week, in honor of family theme we read: The Daddy Goose, Baby Beluga, Counting Kisses, I Love You, Mommy and Guess How Much I Love You? Baby Beluga continues to be a class treasure with our kids every year!
Oh, let us not forget..our dear friend Jack turned the big 2 Thursday. He was sweet enough to bring cupcakes for the class, thank you so much Jack and family. We hope you had a terrific birthday!!! Also, we want to welcome some new faces to our class, Cannen and Noah. Both did an amazing job on their first days with us and we can tell they are already a great addition to our Toddler Family. Welcome boys!
