This week in Spanish we reviewed what we have learned this month. We also added the colors white (blanco) and black (negro) to our color palette. Make sure to ask your child to sing our new song about colors to you this weekend. It begins: "Red is rojo, blue is azul...." that should be enough of a trigger to get them started. :) They have also mastered counting to ten and we are working on getting to 20. |

| | Nocturnal Animals
In Pre-K we talked about Night Animals. Bodie shared that coyotes are roaming his neighborhood! We read Stellaluna, Incredible Owls, The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything, and Witches Halloween. Storytime is so much fun watching their facial expressions change with the story.
Shapes and subtraction were focused on in Math. We practiced using shapes to make landscapes and learned basic shapes along with some newer ones such as a pentagon and octagon.
Witches' Brew was the center of attention during Friday's big event! Ms. Stacy brought in dry ice and showed the kids what happens when you add it to liquid! A foggy fun time!!!!!
Art included Batty Friends which Kennedy and Jack loved creating together and flying around the room. Our fences that we made included cutting shapes to affix to the fence and for the first time, Dylan M. cut every shape himself without assistance! Our weaved placemats were a big hit as we prepared for our big Harvest Party on Friday. Cash learned to weave and Ashleigh persevered until the project was complete. She was so proud of herself!
We learned the song "Five Little Jack 'O Lanterns" and enjoyed acting it out together. They are so excited about the upcoming holiday. We learned how to be safe trick-or-treating and why it is important to listen to adults for our own safety. Turns out we have a record number of Star Wars characters this year!
Please ask your child to write their name for you! We have been practicing writing their first names with upper case as the first letter and then lower case for the rest. You will be amazed!!

Nocturnal Animals
OOOOOO...This week we are talking about things that go bump in the night. Scary? No, silly! We are talking about nocturnal animals. We have loved making, counting, painting, acting like and learning about several different nocturnal animals this week including bats, owls and raccoons. With all of the excitement in the air, we have also spent quite a bit of time talking about pumpkins and Halloween. The kids are super excited. Speaking of Halloween, our letter this week is H! H is for Halloween! We made a Huge H on the wall it is bigger than all of the kids. We decorated H's with Halloween stickers and we learned how to make an H sound. It feels hot on your hand. There is a cute little nocturnal animal that begins with H. Do you know what it is? That's right...a Hedgehog! Do you know what else begins with H? Our very special friends Hannah and Henry. We read some great books this week including The Plumply Dumply Pumpkin, Runaway Pumpkin, and Owl Babies. The kids really enjoyed Owl Babies and Mason always laughed when Bill the smallest owl would say "I want my mommy!" When the kids were asked what they thought the mama owl was doing Neil said "She was going to go get the fox" and Anna thought she was probably camping. We also really like A House that is Haunted. Mac requested this story a lot. Lauren did all the motions with the teacher. Super job! In art, the kids made super cute bats with hand print wings. Nolan colored his bat all yellow and Monica's bat has such a cute face. We also made very cute Owls. The kids were so good at filling their paper bags with crinkled up magazine pages and painting and feathering the owls. Now the owls are all perched on the shelf and they make me giggle to see how cute they are. Pumpkins, pumpkins pumpkins. We read pumpkin stories, sang pumpkin songs, and made pumpkin patches and paper plate pumpkins in art. We played a really fun game called "walk around the pumpkin." The kids each enjoyed their turn to sit in the middle of the circle and hold the real pumpkin while the other kids walked around them singing. Henry enjoyed it when we "all stood still" He got to be really great about stopping and standing still and each time with a great big smile on his face. Ellie B. was not sure why we had a green pumpkin. She found that to be "pretty funny." I don't think she meant funny ha ha either. For science, we opened up a pumpkin to see the inside. What a slimy seedy fun mess! Happy birthday to Hannah this week. Hannah is 3 now! Hannah, you are going to be so good at being three! It was a super fun week! Listening to all of the kids talk about their Halloween costumes, watching kids be bats and owls, hearing all of the counting, friendship making, problem solving, and messy art happening in class. These are some of the things that make us happy to be preschool teachers. And happy starts with H! (that's our letter this week!)

| Two's School with Ms. Nicole & Ms. Rebecca | | Nocturnal Animals
Hello Twos Families,
This week our Twos class discussed all things of the "night" and creepy crawly creatures to celebrate the upcoming Halloween holiday, so the topics were nocturnal animals and bugs! The children enjoyed reading the book OWL BABIES, and Ava decided to make her owl with pink feathers on top of its head. Adam and Noah made bats using their handprints, and Riley enjoyed reading our nocturnal animal stories. During our talk about creepy crawly creatures, Neve and Flynn marched like ants around the classroom, and Hailey pretended to be a caterpillar in its cocoon that turns into a butterfly. The children created their own individual "bugs," and Audrey was creative enough to hide hers under leaves and flowers so that it could take a nap! Austin, Natalie, and Finley had fun making glitter spiders, and we all learned about the letter G as well as created square art. Finally, we ended our week with a Pajama Party! Come by our classroom to see our latest creations! See you soon. |
| Toddler School with Ms. Judy, Ms. Courtney
& Ms. Olga | | Halloween Fun
Boo! Did we scare you? Don't worry, our not so terrifying toddlers are just in the Halloween spirit! This week was packed full of fun and not so frightful Halloween delights. From painting our personal pumpkins to glittering up our letter of the week, G. We had a ghoulish good time this week with our friends in class! We read a ton of Halloween stories such as: The Halloween Play, The Spookiest Halloween Ever, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat and our course, our class favorite, The Runaway Pumpkin. We also made creepy crawly spiders and ghoulish ghosts out off coffee filters and various other supplies. Also, we made more creepy crawlies, such as pipe cleaner spiders and hand print bats! Oh my! We did more art using our focus color, orange and made finger and thumbprint pumpkins! We are so excited to see the kids costumes; we know they absolutely love talking about them and everything having to do with Halloween!!! Also, we would like to say, HAPPY SECOND BIRTHDAY AMI!! Amelie (Ami), turned two and shared some fun Halloween decorated cupcakes with the entire class. One more thing to everyone, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Local Artist, Jen Pahl
teaches our smARTy Pants Art Class.
OCTOBER:
"Fruits, Veggies, Eyes and Ears"
Can you use fruits and vegetables to create art? Sure, you can! We'll learn that complex forms can be created using simple shapes like apples and carrots! We'll look to Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimbolo for inspiration and create a portrait using items right from the garden.
"Kandinsky- Get Your Groove on and Make some Art!"
Learn about Russian-born painter and musician Wassily Kandinsky. We'll listen to music and create artwork that reflects how it makes us feel. Then, we'll put all of our creations together to create a single, vibrant piece of artwork to hang in the lounge at Play Boutique for everyone to enjoy!
"Seurat the dot!"
Tiny dots of pure color were what George Seurat used to create shape and pattern in his artwork. We'll use watercolors and q-tips to create our own pointillism masterpieces. Up close, they just look like a bunch of dots but, stand back and the magic is revealed!
"Mondrian's Window Blocks"
Piet Mondrian was known for his abstract color blocks of red, yellow and blue. We'll have fun using his techniques to make a 'stained glass' window pane to hang in the Play Boutique's art studio window for everyone to see. come...or, save them for unique and personal holiday gifts for that special someone. The last class will end with an open house art show to share our creations with friends and family. |
