Maestra Stacy
This week in Pre-K Spanish we added to our color palette.  Please ask the kids to sing our new color song to you.  They now know red (rojo), blue (azul), green (verde), yellow (amarillo), purple (morado), brown (caffe), black (negro),  and white (blanco).  We have now perfected counting to ten!  They are so proud of their accomplishments!

In Preschool Spanish they are working on red, green and yellow.  Make sure and ask your child to sing the "Buenas Dias" song for you.  They light up the school when they sing!

Pre-Kindergarten with Ms. Lindsi & Ms. Stacy
 Community Helpers  Pre K Sheets

Writing - The class learned about letters Cc and Vv and all the words that correlate with those letters. They also learned the different writing strokes to each of the letters to be able to write Cc and Vv. The class also continued to practice other writing strokes to create their geometric shapes and irregular forms. Finally, the class worked on a skill sheet that had different words that
were missing different letters, and each student had to figure out which letters were missing in each word and write the letters in the blank spot to complete the words.

Math - In Math the class made a really cool "shape ship" and traced each shape
and had to color the correct shape and the correct color that was asked of them. They also were asked to draw a circle, rectangle, and triangle in a certain order resulting in a school bus. The class also made a number book, which each student had to count the objects in the picture and write the correct number that correlates with the objects.

Reading - The class loved the books Officer Brown, Miss Nelson is missing and
Oliver's Vegetables.

Social Studies - As a class we talked about what community helpers are and what type of jobs they do. To help the class learn, I gave them certain clues to help them recognize different community helpers without me having to tell them the answers. They loved this type of a learning strategy. Finally, as a class we
continued to learn about respect of personal belongings of others and about space, between, at the corner of, above and below.

Science - The class got to see "bubble magic" a science experiment. Each day the
class also named the current day of the week, yesterday and tomorrow during calendar time.

Music - As a class they memorized/recited independently, a simple rhyme, poem and a song, "The Wheels on the Bus." The class also worked on relaxing specific body muscles and/or whole body, from a high activity level to a quiet state. Finally to finish our fun Music week, we played "color the movement." We assigned
a movement to each color of the rainbow.

Field Trip - Ms. Stacy and I are very excited for the upcoming pumpkin patch field trip Tues. Oct. 26th at Lee Farms.

Conferences - If you haven't scheduled a conference please see one of the Pre K
teachers, it is very important for those who plan on moving up to Kindergarten next fall to schedule a conference.

PS Snack Time Community Helpers

We have had a blast helping out with all kinds of community activities and taking care of each other during this week's Community Helpers unit.  We have spent time driving police cars (very safely of course), building skyscrapers, climbing ladders (that is what Palmer says the police do), and serving pizza!
We read great theme related stories such as A Day With Police, The Tool Book, and Hi, Pizza Man.  Mason caught on the pizza man story very quickly and enjoyed saying Hi to all the silly animals in the story.  We also repeated a few of the firefighter stories we read last week.  Anna requested we reread I want to drive my fire truck, and of course we were happy to oblige.  Anna also does a good job of reminding us to sing the days of the week song.  Thanks for keeping us all on task Anna.  Anna must know that teachers can forget a lot of things.
In art, we enjoyed making police hats to wear, jack-o-lanterns to hang, and tool box collages.  We also have been doing a lot of painting.  Lauren really loves to paint on the easel and Parker spent 15 minutes painting a beautiful picture for her "Mommy, Daddy and her brother."
Our letter of the week was G!  G for go, go, go!!!  Going is something preschoolers are very good at.  Since Halloween is coming up soon we did many ghost activities to celebrate G.  We read The Ghost who Couldn't Say Boo!  We painted ghosts with puffy paint and best of all, we pretended to be ghosts.  We can be pretty spooky when we want to be.   We also had "G" snacks.  We made goldfish crackers in the shape of a G.  Rory did this very quickly,  We also ate and counted green grapes.  What a delicious way to learn.

We have been learning and singing Halloween songs.  The five little pumpkins is a favorite among many of the kids.  We also really enjoy becoming witches so that we can make a witches brew in our cauldrons.  We all can add ingredients such as the cupcakes Neil added and the pizza added by Kaden.  Then we sing the "witches brew" song.  The kids love using spooky mysterious voices.  There is a lot of excitement in the air about the Halloween costumes and trick or treating.  I can't wait to see everyone's costumes at the PLAY Boutique party.  (I really hope you can make it.  It was super cute and fun last year.)
Happy Birthday Tegan!  Tegan is 4 now and he spent a week in super excitement mode with a smile on that was probably bigger than his face.  We love having you in class Teg and congratulations on being 4!

We would like to welcome Olivia (who sometimes wants to be called Liv or Livvy and sometimes Olivia) and Nolan.  Welcome kids,  we are looking forward to sharing a very fun year with you!

If you have not yet signed up for the pumpkin patch field trip or conferences and you would like to please feel free to contact Ms. Angie or Mr. Thomas.  Thanks a bunch.

Community HelpersTwos Lunch Bunch

Hello Twos families!

This week we are continuing our explorations about Autumn. We have
talked about how pumpkins grow during autumn, and everything you can do with a pumpkin, from carving Jack-O-Lanterns to making pumpkin bread to eating the seeds. We explored the texture and feel of mini- pumpkins, Indian corn, and what it looks, smells, and feels like inside two large pumpkins. Finley was quite interested in observing
our pumpkins with a magnifying glass, and Adam and Hailey loved exploring the texture of Indian corn. Ellie even said that the inside
of a pumpkin looks, "goopy," while Adam insisted that it looked, "spooky!" Natalie and Noah painted their mini-pumpkins in multiple
colors and the entire class had fun making a thumbprint "pumpkin patch." We pretended to sell mini-pumpkins in a class pumpkin patch
and practiced putting them into groups of one, two, three, and four using them as well. Ava, Flynn, Maddie, and Riley have all greatly
enjoyed reading our Fall-themed books, and the children love receiving "pretend pumpkins" from Ms. Nicole whenever we sing, "Pick, Pick,
Pick a Fat Pumpkin" and playing the game, "Ring Around the Pumpkin." On Thursday Ava, Adam, Noah, Finley, Natalie, Flynn, and Ellie took
our study about Autumn "high tech" and created our very first digital storybook called, IN THE FALL, using the online site, "Storybird." If you would like to read our book, please give your email address to either Ms. Nicole or Ms. Rebecca, and we can make sure that it is
emailed to you. Its creation was such a success that we plan on making more of these books soon.

Happy Autumn!

Night OwlsToddler Recess Fun

This week in our terrific Toddler Class we said "welcome back" to our dear friend Yush and we also were quite pleased to see our little chef Isaac as well.  This week we talked about what animals are awake and play when we go to bed at night.  We painted purple bats and feathered up some owls.  Amelie shared with us that an owl says, "woo!!!"

Also, this week we decorated our letter of the week, "F."  It was filled with fun and fancy feathers.  Our color this week was orange and of course we couldn't help but color one of our favorite fruits, oranges.  We have also started to decorate our class with silly and spooky Halloween decorations, which both Isaac and Amelie both love, especially the green spiders.

Local Artist, Jen Pahl
teaches our smARTy Pants Art Class.

OCTOBER:
 "Fruits, Veggies, Eyes and Ears"
Can you use fruits and vegetables to create art? Sure, you can! We'll learn that complex forms can be created using simple shapes like apples and carrots! We'll look to Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimbolo for inspiration and create a portrait using items right from the garden.

"Kandinsky- Get Your Groove on and Make some Art!"
Learn about Russian-born painter and musician Wassily Kandinsky. We'll listen to music and create artwork that reflects how it makes us feel. Then, we'll put all of our creations together to create a single, vibrant piece of artwork to hang in the lounge at Play Boutique for everyone to enjoy!

"Seurat the dot!"
Tiny dots of pure color were what George Seurat used to create shape and pattern in his artwork. We'll use watercolors and q-tips to create our own pointillism masterpieces. Up close, they just look like a bunch of dots but, stand back and the magic is revealed!

"Mondrian's Window Blocks"
Piet Mondrian was known for his abstract color blocks of red, yellow and blue. We'll have fun using his techniques to make a 'stained glass' window pane to hang in the Play Boutique's art studio window for everyone to see. come...or, save them for unique and personal holiday gifts for that special someone. The last class will end with an open house art show to share our creations with friends and family.
