Rojo y Amarillo
Rojo y Amarillo
In Spanish we studied rojo-red, and amarillo-yellow.  We played games searching for items that are those colors, created beautiful artwork stipling paint with the colors and created a fun texturized flower with glitter.  We also used apples (rojo) and lemons (amarillo) and made prints with the paints.  Super fun!  They love understanding what Maestra Stacy says and it is really beginning to click now.  Please take the time in the car to review their colors by utilizing the stop lights on your drives.  Ask them when you stop how to say red and yellow in Spanish.  You will be just as amazed as I am at what they have learned in a few short weeks!

 Explorers  Spanish Art

The books we read this week at story time were, Fire, Fire, Firefighters,
Emergency Stop drop and Roll, Dora's Halloween, and Ellie the Enormous Elephant

In Math the class practiced tracing and cutting shapes, number writing and tracing, matching object and constructing a collection of 1-10  objects that have the same number as the group.

In Art the class made play-dough continents and we talked about what they would explore if they went to each continent. For Fire Prevention month we made a thank you picture for the firefighters that we visited on our field trip to the fire station. Finally, we made a ship that the class could use to travel to each continent to explore.

In Writing/Literacy the class practiced reading the first names of classmates. The class continued to practice their writing strokes of their names and writing words that start with the letters of the week, Xx, Ee and Mm.  Grace is really working hard in writing and beams after completing a task.  She runs to Ms. Lindsi and Ms. Stacy to show off her great work.  Also the class worked on tracing and drawing independently in their journals.

In Music we practiced singing, "Do you know the Continents."  In Spanish, Arianna and Ashleigh mastered our "Amigos" song.  They are so proud of their accomplishments.  Ask them to sing it sometime.

Finally, for Social Studies we took a field trip to the Fire Station, the class had so much fun and learned a lot about the firefighter's duties, what the fire trucks have on them, what the fire house looks like, and finally how important
their jobs are to keep everyone safe. When the children were asked what to do if they catch on fire, Soleil shouted out, "Stop, drop, and roll!"  We all cheered and watched her mom, Erin as she mouthed "yes" silently.Thank you to all of the parent volunteers.  We couldn't have done it without you.  We cannot wait until the next field trip to the Pumpkin Patch October 26th at Lee Farms.

Love,
Ms Lindsi and Ms Stacy

  Wild animalsExplorers

Explorers was the theme this week and we had a great time being explorers ourselves!  We traveled across Oceans with Max, while reading Where the Wild Things Are and then had our own "wild rumpus!"  We learned about the famous explorer Christopher Columbus while reading In 1492.  Then we made funny Christopher Columbus pictures.  We became astronauts and traveled on a space shuttle exploring not only the moon but distant planets.  What a great trip it was.

Since we spent so much time exploring places in or across the ocean, we sang "Row, row, row your boat" this week.  So many early explorers used boats to explore our world.  We partnered up and held hands with a buddy to help row our boats.  We sang and rowed fast and slow.  Henry is a vary vigorous rower, he likes his boat to be fast!  We also used different body parts to row our oars.  We practiced rowing with our arms, legs, elbows, fingers and tongues.  Tegan is a great finger rower and uses his little voice to row his little finger boat.  We also sang "little red caboose" this week which Anna requests every time we head to the bathroom.

In Science, we are learning about the concepts of sinking and floating.  We had fun experimenting with things in water tubs to see whether they would sink to the bottom (like the eraser) or float on the top of the water (like the wooden craft stick).

We are learning about shapes this month.  We read Hello Kitty's Hello Shapes book to introduce some basic shapes.  We made Circle Collages and talked about things that are shaped like circles.  Monica said "A Ball is a circle" and Rory told us that "a turtles shell" is a circle too.  We also enjoyed playing the What Shape is it? game as a large group activity.  The children enjoyed yelling out the shape names and I'm sure that everyone in the school knows that we are very excited about squares in Preschool.

Our letter focus this week was the excellent letter E.  Both of our Ellie's names begin with E.  Ellie B. thinks it's pretty cool to have another Ellie in Class. In art, we painted envelopes and decorated eggs to emphasize the letter E.  We also did lots of exercises.  We did jumping jacks, toe touches and other exercises that are super funny to do with a large group of three year olds.  (It is so cute to watch little kids do jumping jacks and Brodie couldn't stop laughing which was pretty funny too.)

We are super excited to welcome Mason, Hannah and Ellie to our class.  We are glad you are here!

Thank you Amelia for bringing in the cutest little pumpkin.  It's adorable and makes me feel so smiley.

A quick reminder that conferences are this month.  If you are interested in having a parent-teacher conference please e-mail Angie at angie@playboutique.com or leave a note on the parent board note box.  Conferences are available early evenings, Monday through Friday.

ExplorersThe Leaves Are Falling

Dobry Den from the Twos!
That means Good Day in Czech, which goes with our Children Around the World theme for the week.  On Monday we made a book about ourselves and a collage about beautiful Oregon to send to our new penpals, a Threes class at the International School in Prague in the Czech Republic.  Audrey said in our book that she liked the color purple, while Henry shared that he loved to play with airplanes.  Noah told our new friends that he likes to wear his super cape at dress-up, and Riley wanted them to know that her favorite color is pink.  Paige enjoyed decorating our pages with paint and little "people", and Ava had fun making handprints for the book.

Later in the week, we learned about Mexico with Ms. Kathia and made pinatas.  We also went on an indoor "safari" with Flynn as our fearless leader to look for African animals while we learned about Africa, and all of the children enjoyed wearing African animal hats (especially Adam!)  We also had our photos taken for school pictures, and we are ending our week learning about China.  We look forward to finding out more about our new friends from far away!

ExplorersLove to Read

This week we went around the globe and back again.  From the tropical islands of Hawaii to the mysterious pyramids of Egypt.  We had a blast!  We made travel sticker collages of places of which we wanted to voyage to.  Claire chose China.  Speaking of China, we also did jasmine rice and chopstick art!

We listened to music from all over.  From The Beatles and Gaelic Storm to some amazing African musicians.

Our letter this week was "D."  We decorated our class "D" in dozens of dots.  I think this was our favorite letter to do so far.  After all, dog starts with "d!"  We also talked about the color yellow and painted some stars.

OCTOBER:
 "Fruits, Veggies, Eyes and Ears"
Can you use fruits and vegetables to create art? Sure, you can! We'll learn that complex forms can be created using simple shapes like apples and carrots! We'll look to Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimbolo for inspiration and create a portrait using items right from the garden.

"Kandinsky- Get Your Groove on and Make some Art!"
Learn about Russian-born painter and musician Wassily Kandinsky. We'll listen to music and create artwork that reflects how it makes us feel. Then, we'll put all of our creations together to create a single, vibrant piece of artwork to hang in the lounge at Play Boutique for everyone to enjoy!

"Seurat the dot!"
Tiny dots of pure color were what George Seurat used to create shape and pattern in his artwork. We'll use watercolors and q-tips to create our own pointillism masterpieces. Up close, they just look like a bunch of dots but, stand back and the magic is revealed!

"Mondrian's Window Blocks"
Piet Mondrian was known for his abstract color blocks of red, yellow and blue. We'll have fun using his techniques to make a 'stained glass' window pane to hang in the Play Boutique's art studio window for everyone to see. come...or, save them for unique and personal holiday gifts for that special someone. The last class will end with an open house art show to share our creations with friends and family.
