This week in Spanish Maestra Stacy taught the children "Hola" and "Adios." They started asking the names of everything in Spanish! They are so curious and their pronunciation is incredible! Please keep up the great work at home practicing, it shows. |

Dear PEAKE Academy Families,
Thank you to all of the families that were able to join us for our Open House. It was priceless watching the joy in the childrens' eyes as they were able to show their families around their classroom during the scavenger hunt. If you were not able to make it, another great time to visit your child's class and talk with their teacher is during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Schedule one with your teacher today. In Writing the class is learning about the letters Tt and Oo and all the words that start with those letters. The class is writing strokes: spiral, horizontal/vertical lines, and circles. They are also continuing to learn how to properly hold their pencils. In writing it is important to teach the class what words start with capitals and what words do not. Finally, the class is continuing to learn about sequencing and putting events in correct order. Ashleigh has been having fun with writing and likes to show us her coloring and asks "Did I stay in the lines?" Dylan Masuda has matured so much in the last couple of weeks! He says "excuse me" when he needs our help and is so proud of his newfound writing skills. Next time you see Pearl, be sure to ask her to write her name, in one week she has mastered her name by herself.
In Art the class made a texture book learning how to describe their sense of touch. They also were able to express their sense of sight by painting a picture of their favorite item to look at, then they made a smelling collage to describe different smells with their nose. Finally they made a tongue and separated it into different parts ( bitter, salty, sweet and sour for their sense of taste.)
In Math the class is work on writing numbers 1-20 and learning how to visually see numbers and know which number of items correlate. Also, they are learning how to properly count numbers 1-30. The class is learning their shapes, colors and size. Finally, they are learning time, name/locate birth date on the calendar.
In Music we are learning the sense of hearing by singing many songs, "Five Senses" and others. We are also having the class listen for the beat of different types of music while dancing.
In Science the class got to see dancing ants! They loved it.
In Social Studies the class learned why we need all our sense and how it would change our way of living if we did not have all of our five senses.
Dylan Kellington loves showing off his Crystal Castles and ships he builds during Station time. We love hearing the details of how the ships work. Jack has become quite the helper, always volunteering to pick up projects and help friends.
Thanks,

Five Senses
The Preschool class really enjoyed our Five Senses theme this week. We did lots of activities daily that had us learning about our preschool class, our school, world around us and each other.
We spent time every day just listening. (I don't know if you have ever experienced 16 three year olds sitting quietly and listening. It is a wondrous thing!) We would be so still and close our mouths, hold our hands to our ears to hear. Then we would quietly talk about what we heard...teachers' voices, other children, the bounce house.
We played "Do you see what I see?" Someone would see something in the room and then describe it. The class would guess what it was. This was a great vocabulary building activity as well as a fun way to get a turn to speak in front of the group. We also made look and listen scopes to explore what is around us in a more focused way. While we were painting our scopes, Andy mixed yellow and blue and was really excite because he made green. Good job, Andy!
We used our sense of smell to smell the classroom. That was kind of a silly thing to do. Amelia thought the room smelled "good." All of the kids pretty much agreed. After that we smelled our feet. It was pretty funny and we heard a lot of "OOOOOO"s and "yuck"s followed by giggles. To see the kids all with their toes to their nose was pretty funny. We did have someone take a little taste of a toe also but I'll never say who. We also smelled fresh herbs from Ms. Angie's garden. Herbs have a nicer scent than feet. (they probably taste better too.)
We made texture books to explore our sense of touch this week. It was great to feel things like feathers and cotton balls. Many of the kids thought very carefully about what words they would use to describe the things the touched. Jackson, however, did not care for the feeling of sandpaper and just said "NO." The texture books were a lot of fun to make. The kids really enjoyed the sensory table full of "things that feel soft" this week. The feathers were especially fun. Ellie got a big kick out of the way she could catch a feather floating down so softly after it has been blown up into the air.
We made a special effort to pay attention to the way our snack tasted this week. We noticed the saltiness of our pretzels and the sweetness of fruit leather. We also noticed the textures of the food we were eating. When asked if her cracker was crunchy or squishy, Parker replied "Crinchy!"
We read books about our senses including Your Senses and Country Dog and City Dog Use Their Five Senses. Mac particularly enjoyed the book We See, Hear, Taste, Smell and Touch. It is a Big Book and I think Mac enjoyed the challenge of reading such a large book on his own.
Our letter of the week was D. We learned "the Daddy song" because Daddy has 3 d's in it and our Daddies are so great. The kids really enjoyed all of the clapping in the song and Cash tends to break out singing the song during lunch bunch. We also really had fun pretending to be dogs this week because of course dog also begins with d. It may actually be easier to get a class full of "dogs" to do all the same thing at the same time than it is to get preschoolers to. Of course we never offer preschoolers pretend invisible doggie biscuits for doing tricks. Hmmm... We also painted dots onto D's using bingo daubers. Dotty D's!
A big welcome to Mr. Thomas. We are excited to have you join us for a very fun school year!
Thank you to all the parents who have been helping cut out projects. It is appreciated so much!
Thank you to all of the families who came to visit us for open house. It was super to see so many smiling kids and so many moms, dads and grandparents!

Greetings from the Twos class!
This week, we have been continuing our inquiry into using our hands and feet by focusing on our sense of touch. Willie, Hailey, and Noah dressed as bakers and used their hands to decorate cookies (a wonderful "C" word, our letter of the week), while Neve, Sadie, and Ellie P. created pages for our classroom "touch and feel" book. Flynn, Adam, Mason, and Finley have also been enjoying playing "cars" (another great "C" word for the week) with our special garage and parking lot. Neve, Paige, Finley, Noah, and other members of the class explored how shaving cream feels between our fingers. Words to describe the shaving cream's texture include "soft, wet, cold, and like ice cream."
Finley, Adam, Noah, and Willie all enjoyed describing what it felt like to walk on cotton balls, while Riley, Audrey, and Henry were thrilled about having their feet painted and making footprints on butcher paper. We sang songs about all the ways we use our feet, practiced the different ways of "walking" (tip-toe, heel to toe, side to side, etc.) and played games where we marched, stomped, and danced.
Our class is having a "toe-stomping" good time! |

What a fast and fun month September has been. This week we wrapped up September by learning about our Five Senses. We made a class texture board, a collage of eyes, noses and mouths and listened to new and various music while we danced around on butcher paper with painted feet.
Our letter this week was, "C." We decorated our class "C" with splashes of color and we all did some cookie cutter painting!
We read more books on colors and some on our senses like, My Five Senses, I Can Tell by Touching, Smell, Take Another Look, and The Five Senses.
We sang "Where is Thumbkin?," "Head Shoulders, Knees & Toes," and talked about the many things we can do with our senses. |
| Toddler School with Ms. Judy | | Five Senses
We had fun learning our letter "C," the color yellow and talking about what we do with our feet.
Monday we colored large "C's" with bright colors, yellow, orange, blue, green and red. Olivia's "C" was bright with green and yellow. Kaianna and Yush painted together and made theirs orange, yellow and green. Brooklyn created a blue and red "C."
Tuesday we painted their feet with a ray of bright colors that made a class footprint collage. As we were painting, we asked them how the paint felt on their little feet.
Wednesday we made a Touch and Feel collage of different materials. With the materials leftover we put them in a tub so they could touch and feel.
For Music, we stomped our feet and walked, walked walked.
We had a fun and creative week. |
