In Art the class created some really safe and healthy art pieces. The class made stop light signs to learn about the safety tips of stop and go. They also made a stop sign, and junk food vs healthy food choice collage. We made a food pyramid and talked about how to balance their diets. Finally they did mud art to let the class have fun and also to explain why it is so important to wash their hands after playing outside. We also made safety vests out of garbage bags. Zoi loves to color! She spent 20 minutes perfecting her birthday cake for the birthday board so it would be "just right."
Math was very busy this week, the class continued practicing writing their numbers and counting 1-20. They also continued learning about how to put different events into the correct sequence.
In Science the class did a sneezing experiment, showing the importance of sneezing into your elbow and to always wash your hands afterwards. We used food coloring, water and a spray bottle and sprayed onto a piece of white paper, showing all the germs that spray out when you sneeze. The class thought this was very interesting.
In Writing we learned about letters Hh and Ss. We learned how these letters sound and all the words that start with the letters of the week. We practiced writing different words that start with H and S. The class has come so far in just one week with writing their letters. After completing his first set of "H"s, Bodie turned to Ms. Stacy and said, "This is the best day in Pre-K ever."
Music was a very helpful way to remind the class about health and safety. We sang "Wash, Wash, Wash your hand," "Make Healthy Choices," and "If You Sneeze." Walking back to class after a restroom visit, Kennedy, Ashleigh, Soleil, Leah, Sikha and Olive broke into song. They sang our "Make New Friends" song and warmed the hearts of all the moms in the Open Play session
Thanks,

Hi Everybody! I'm so excited you are here to spend a great year in preschool with us! A big welcome to those of you who are new to preschool. Welcome back to those of you who have returned after a summer off- we missed you! And to those of you who spent the summer hanging out with us- Hi- Thanks for playing with me. We have had a fun month getting to know each other better. So many of us have so much in common. Almost everybody is 3 now and going to be 4 on their next birthday. Palmer is very excited about this fact exclaiming "Me too! I'm going to be 4 on my next birthday too!" We have two big sisters (Rory and Anna) who have little sisters named Lucy. And Everyone in class likes to paint! We have been starting our mornings with the "Good Morning Song." Every child gets sung to and mentioned by name and the class waves to each friend. It is very cute to see the kids get their chance to be the center of attention and each of them seems to love it. Parker's slightly shy but absolutely beaming smile at her turn is precious. This week's theme is "Being Safe and Healthy." We have learned a lot about keeping our bodies healthy. We have been learning to wash our hands the "germ busting way" and singing the ABC song while we wash to make sure we get our hands nice and clean. We have also been practicing using our "cough catchers" (the inside of our elbows) to catch our sneezes and coughs so we don't share our germs. Sharing toys is great. Sharing germs- not great! The kids love to pretend to sneeze so they can catch those germs. We have read some great stories about how our bodies work including Your Muscles and Your Bones. We have also talked about foods that are good for our bodies and help us to be strong and healthy. Neil suggested "cheese puffs" but after a bit of reflection and some encouragement decided strawberries are very good for your body. Staying safe is also very important. That is our number one rule in class and we have learned lots of things we can do outside of class to be safe also. We read Never Talk to Strangers and the kids helped chant "never talk to strangers!" at the end of each page. Rylee helps out with Gusto! We learned the "911" song and just about everyone has that number memorized now. We talked a bit about bike safety. Everyone got a chance to try on Ms. Angie's bike helmet. Your kids are SO Cute! Our letter of the week is C. Cash's name begins with C! We decorated C's with cotton balls. We practiced our one to one correspondence by counting cotton balls and one inch cubes. We had a special snack of Clementines. We counted how many were in a bag. There were 22. Then kids who wanted to try one were able to choose one with their snack. 8 kids decided to try one. Maryanne was the only one who was able to peel her clementine without any help! Very Cool Maryanne! Monica who was very excited to get and peel a clementine was a bit apprehensive about eating it. When she tried it she was very excited, saying "Ms. Angie, Ms. Angie... I like it!" I'm so proud of her for trying new things! I think we will have a fun new year of trying new things! Happy belated birthday to Maryanne who turned three last weekend! Yahoo to you, Big girl! Happy birthday also to Lauren. The Donut birthday party was so fun and everyone loved wearing the Krispee Kreme hats and looked so cute. Lauren did a great job delivering birthday treats to all of the classrooms.
Please try to make it to the Open House next week. It should be fun and we are looking forward telling you how great your kids are! |
| Two's School with Ms. Nicole & Ms. Rebecca | | Health & Safety
Hello from the Twos classroom! We have had an amazing start to our school year, beginning with our ice cream social and continuing on to talking about how we are all special and different during our first week. Our twos compared each other's hair, eye color, skin color, height, and everything that makes us unique. We made little people representing ourselves as well as collages with pictures of the things we like.
Last week, we discussed friendship and manners and played games during circle time where we can learn each others names. We made a friendship quilt, and we studied the letter A. Riley and Hailey enjoyed our princess dresses, while Finley, Noah, Neve, and Paige had fun digging and uncovering rocks in our rice sensory table.
This week, we have begun an inquiry into our Hands and Feet! This is an integrated unit where we will be answering this week's question, "What can we do with our hands?" We have learned that hands are for taking care of ourselves, others, creating and building, moving, and communicating.
The children have been singing songs about washing our hands, crossing the street, and holding hands. Willie and Paige explored how a doctor uses his/her hands to care for others by dressing as a pediatrician and caring for our dolls, Natalie, Austin, and Ellie used their hands to create fire trucks out of recycled boxes after discussing how firemen use their hands to help others, Finley and Adam explored how construction workers used their hands to drive trucks and move large things at the sensory table, and the entire class practiced using their hands for hugging by playing the game, "Musical Hugs." We have also been studying the letter B and the color red. More to come next week! |
| Two's School with Ms. Courtney | | Health & Safety
This week was all about being super safe and healthy. Ms. Claire and Hannah dove in to the week with decorating our letter of the week "B"with various and fun band aids and some out of beads. Band-Aid and beads both start with "B," as does "blue,'" the very color we made our b's out of!! We continued to focus on the color red, like Clifford (the dog), barns and even made a class fire truck; painted red of course! We also made a class ambulance, and talked about how sometimes we need to take an ambulance to the doctors if we are really hurt!
We read books about safety, being healthy and the color red. Our favorite was The Big Red Barn. The girls loved pointing out the farm animals and making their sounds. We also read, Germs are NOT for sharing,Clifford for the Big Red Dog, Ten Apples Up on Top, and This is the Way We Take a Bath. We decorated the classroom B with colorful cotton balls, BRAVO friends! We ended our week discussing and pointing out in dramatic play what foods are good for you and which are okay to eat only sometimes. It is great to see how the kids in the class are doing so well at the beginning of the year. They are a joy to have in class!!
Side note: Please remember to always have socks for the children either on or in their bags for when go out into the play structure area. |

Hello Toddler families! This week we were talking about how many things we do with our hands and integrating themes of Health and Safety, Community Helpers and Kindness & Friendship.
For Art we made an ambulance, fire truck and our letter "B." We also created individual collages.
On Wednesday, our friend Jack had his 2nd birthday! His family brought in delicious cupcakes to celebrate with all of his friends at Peake Academy. The big celebration included a balloon, stickers & a turtle for every child. Jack LOVES turtles! Everyone had a great time. Thanks to Jack and his family for sharing his special day with us. |
