Star Student: Sikha
Art - We had a blast marble painting a sea star, sponge painting coral collages, making "Good Luck Goldfish" window art. Dillon especially enjoyed the shark 3-D collage we put together.  All of the children enjoyed our special guest, Ms. Lindsi's husband Chad, who came in to teach the children about salmon.  They love when we have special guests!

In Reading, we shared The Clumsy Crab, Big Al, Under the Sea, Rainbow Fish and our special book read by Chad, Sammy the Salmon.  Grace and Kennedy loved the The Clumsy Crab and had alot of fun finishing Ms. Stacy's sentences throughout the story.  They are very good at rhymes now!

Our letters of the week were "O" and "U".  We taught the children how to make the letters using their bodies with a partner and had a lot of fun and laughs!  They have been practicing their sounds as well as letter blends and are really catching on!

We have been practicing our special songs for graduation in Music and Taylor, Taj and Kennedy really are great at leading.  Crab walking was popular and we sang "Slippery Fish" and the "Baby Shark" song to follow our "Under the Sea" theme.

Math consisted of "over and under," cereal graphing with Fruit Loops, (very popular!) and counting pennies.

Special News:  As you may have heard, we received a Butterfly Habitat and 5 caterpillars.  They became cocoons last week and today, poof!  Butterflies!!!!  Look for a field trip form to come home to release them next week.  The children are fascinated and excited!  It has been a wonderful Science project.  Our class pet (Rosie)  will return next week.  She has been on hiatus at Ms. Stacy's house where she has been eating like crazy!  Donations of wax worms are always appreciated.  Please talk to Ms. Stacy for a resource.  They are inexpensive and a fun way for your child to contribute to the classroom and the reptile store is a super cool trip!

This week we dove into our "Under the Sea" theme.  The kids enjoyed playing in the water, acting like and learning about different ocean creatures and telling each other stories of trips to beaches.
We read great stories like Over in the Ocean, Baby Beluga, and the hysterical I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean.  We also sang a bunch of new song including "I'm a little starfish," and "Take me out to the ocean."  Sometimes we just sing whatever the kids want to sing and this week Andy suggested "You are my Sunshine."  It is about the sweetest thing when the kids sing that song all together.
In art this week, we made jellyfish out of bowls and streamers, used stencils to paint whales, sharks and dolphins, and we painted with watercolor paints.  Aaren painted his picture for his mom and was sure she would love it.  I bet she did.
In science, we made ocean bags with sea creatures.  So fun, squishy and beautiful.
We did a lot of counting and number recognition for math this week.  We fished for number fish, counted sea creatures and played a little number game.  In the game we had to count and show the correct number of fingers.  L.J. consistently had the fasted number fingers.
Our letter this week was l.  L is for lobster and Lou and L.J.  It is also for lollipop and so we made some paper lollipop and learned a lollipop song and poem.
It was a super fun week and we are definitely looking forward to a little more oceanrific fun this summer at Oceanography camp.

This week we dove under the sea in our class and searched what lies beneath the deep blue sea.  From painting octopi and blue beluga whales to adding scales to fish and texturing star fish and more.  We floated along this week and an had amazing time! We read I am the Biggest Thing in the Ocean!, Nemo Saves the Day, Baby Beluga and "Rainbow Fish 1,2,3.  The tikes had a fun time sing the famous baby beluga song all week long and rocking out to tunes from "The Little Mermaid."  It is wonderful to see how far the kids have come with art.  They all love to get involved now with the various crafts and goodies we use in art.  We remember when our Cheeseball (Lauren) wouldn't dare touch paint and now is one of our little Pretty Picasso's. Even our Big Henry has come along way from keeping paint, markers and crayons on his art.  It is getting close to that time of the year when we really realize how much these children have grown!  I would also like to say a special "Thank you" to Lauren for helping me set the tables this week for snack, she did a marvelous job!  Oh, our friend Mac wants to remind everyone also that "Toy Story 3" is coming soon, but "Not on DVD!"  Next week we are talking about transportation in class, so if your child wishes to bring in their favorite toy that shows some type of transportation, he or she is more than welcome to (planes, trains, cars, buses and trucks are all welcomed!).
Check out the progress on our new space!!!!
