This week in Pre-K we learned about Plants and Seeds.
Star Student - Taylor
In Art we made really cute popsicle letter trees, a seed collage, and beautiful sunflower pictures, while labeling each part of the flower. Kennedy and Sikha loved how pretty their sunflower picture turned out. We had so much fun learning about all of the different art we can create with different textures such as plants and seeds.
In Writing we practiced our letters of the week: Ss & Gg. We had fun searching the classroom for items that begin with these letters. Alex, Rowan and Leah love this part of class! Arianna found a great Ss word, "snap!"
Our Science project was to create tornados in a bottle. Be sure to ask your children how we made them as they participated in the process. The effect was awesome! Our pea pods have begun to sprout! The kids get to take turns watering and they love to observe how much their own plant has grown. We also spoke a lot about our new class pet, Rosie. She is a Leopard Gecko. Some gecko facts: she does not bite, she is only handled by teachers, eats meal worms, sheds her skin approximately every 4 weeks, must be kept between 85-95 degrees and is found in India and Pakistan. She is amazingly friendly and curious with the children. They were able to pet her for the first time on Monday. Olive was surprised to find she is "soft and cuddly."
We studied the numbers 11-15 this week and made a thumbprint painting complete with shapes to show the numbers. We also worked with popsicle sticks to create shapes.
Music was a lot of fun as we are working on a special song. We will perform it for all of you next Thursday afternoon, so be sure to mark May 6th on your calendar. The children are very excited. Several of them already knew the song, so it made learning it a lot easier for everyone.
Reading time is always a highlight, the books we read were, The Tiny Seed, Big Words for Little People, The Giving Tree, What You do is Easy, What I do is Hard, & Messy Bessy's Garden. We continue to include books not only about our theme for the week, but also ones that are relevant to school manners.
