| | Mother Earth / Recycling
Creative Art was very interesting this week, as it is recycling week! The class loved creating a robot made out of tin foil, a wind chime made out of spoons, forks, and knife, a very cool sculpture made out of many different items, and finally, we decorated our new library mats. The mats have been a huge help during circle time, as the class was struggling to remember to stay in one spot. They all think it is really cool to have their own mat!
Math was all about shapes, counting, matching, and sorting. The class is getting so good at shape puzzles, counting up to 30, and sorting pennies by correlating number jars. We also have been playing lots of board games during station time that has a ton of counting incorporated. The class is really enjoying learning new board games. Logan has been such a great helper this week, he has one of the board games at home and has been very helpful teaching other friends how to play.
Writing has been so much fun this week. The class has been really having fun learning how to rhyme words and with "that." They are practicing their blending sounds. Molly, Taj, Olive, Gracie, Rowan, Taylor, Logan, and Dillon have really been grasping and are taking the steps to start to reading. The letters of the week are Rr and Ee. We have been practicing writing the letters of the week and learning words that start with R and E.
Science has been very exciting this week. Our class has added a classroom pet this week. It is a leopard Gecko, we have also been observing a caterpillar that has cocooned, that Rowan brought to class and finally we planted a pea garden that we are going to observe grow this week and next.
Reading was informational this week, the class learned a lot about how to keep our world clean and healthy. We learned about what we can and cannot recycle, we learned how to save our earth, by conserving water, how to keep our air clean, try to walk or ride bikes instead of drive, clean up garbage off the ground, and bring your own re-useable bag to the grocery store. The books we read were, A box can be many things, Is there really a Human Race, and Kindness is Cool.
In music we did a really fun obstacle course while singing the song " I have got the whole world in my hands" and we did a recycling treasure hunt, the class found two things at a time that was recycled or you could re-use. They all had such great ideas and thoughts about what they found. |

Mother Earth / Recycling
This week's Mother Earth theme gave us lots of opportunities to celebrate our planet and learn about ways we can help our environment be a healthy one. We learned about the three rs, reducing, reusing and recycling and did many activities to practice each one. The kids enjoyed many "trash to treasure" art activities like making prints from recyclables such as water bottles and cans, newspaper oceans with magazine fish, and coffee carrier art. The old party balloons we found were super silly to paint with and made beautiful art. And the "junk" sculptures that we made look fabulous. Palmer made a camera and it is very cool. We had a great time using recyclable bottles and tubes with birdseed. They were just right for filling, pouring and dumping. When we are done with them, we know just what to do- put them in the recycling so they can go to the recycling center and be made into something new! We read very informative books. Why Should I Recycle, The Earth and I, and Earth Smartwere great. Dinosaurs to the Rescue! A Guide to Protecting Our Planetwas super but it was long, so read a little each day and made a book mark to save our place. We learned a lot of interesting things like plastic comes from oil, how to conserve resources and that bananas are recyclable! Our letter this week was g. Glorious g! We used glitter glue to decorate green g. Soleil gave Jada a nice lesson on how to use the glitter glue. You are very helpful, Sos! We ate green grapes, painted with a golf ball and planted grass seed. Maybe in a little while we will have a nice lawn in our class! Our friend Grace's name begins with an upper case G. Learning about the Earth is fun but the real excitement this week has been all about our new class friends. Neil's mommy came in on Monday with 2 African Dwarf Frogs. The kids love them. The kids chose and voted for their names. We had many suggestions including Dylan's "Spiderman", Kristin's "Sprinkle", and L.J.'s "Puppy love" but Soleil's suggestions for the small frog "Mocha" and Ashleigh's "Strawberry Shortcake" for the larger were the two winning names. Stop in and see them. You can't help but smile.
Thanks again Ms. Sara for Mocha and Strawberry Shortcake. We LOVE them. Big news! Grace turned 4 this week!!! Thanks for the fun party and you even blew out all of your pretend candles! You get your wish. (And it has to be said that Haris looks rather dashing in a chocolate goatee.) Pearl is a big sister now! Pearl, you will be a wonderful big sister! Cinco de Mayo is coming up soon. If anyone wants to come in to help with a few class activities please talk to Ms. Claudia or Ms. Angie. It is sure to be fun!

| Toddler School with Ms. Judy & Ms. Courtney | | Mother Earth / Recycling
This week in the TERRIFIC Toddler class we talked about one wonderful mother that we all share, Mother Earth and how we must take care of her because she is always doing so many things for us. From food and water to supplies for our own art project, Mother Earth takes care of us, but we need to take care of her. We made "I Love Mother Earth" pictures showing our love for our planet and colored various sheets showing the importance of recycling and how everyone can do their share to keep our planet clean. We painted an Earth mural for Earth Day and made a collage of various extra art supplies we saved from past art projects. Also, we made a cool picture with re-used comic strips, showing how even the newspaper and comics can be re-used for fun things. We read The Giving Tree and poems entitled "Earth Day" and "My Earth Day Badge." We sang a song that Ms Courtney remembered from when she was at school as a little girl called "Recycle-Reduce-Reuse." We even talked about how we don't have to throw out our food during snacks if we didn't eat it because it can be eaten another time. Our little friends are very good about only taking as little tissues or paper towels as possible. Our future Earth Protectors are awesome!
