Pre-Kindergarten with Ms. Lindsi & Ms. Stacy
 Printing PracticeBackyard Bugs

In CreativeArt we designed dirty bug art, made really cool snails out of paper bowls and paper plate ladybug puppets. The class really loved making the ladybug puppets. We also made dirty, slimy worm cave pictures, and of course, the worms were gummy worms. We used our imaginations pretending the worms were super slimy and dirty. Finally we made bumble bees out of toilet paper rolls and beautiful tissue paper butterflies.

In Math we worked on patterns, sequencing, and shapes. We created pretty flower patterns, using green, purple, pink and yellow. Caden, Kennedy, Sikha, Olive, Grace and Gracie loved the beautiful flower patterns we created.  We also played a math game called, "Guess what number I am."  We split the class into two teams. One team was named the ladybugs and the other team the bumble bees.  I would give the class two hints, one hint rhymed with the number and the other hint was, "this number is in between _ and _ ." The ladybugs were ahead when we ended the game. Taj, Molly, Connor, Logan and Rowan really loved this game.

In Reading we read, Miss Spider's New Car, Diary of a Spider, The Very Quiet Cricket, and the Big Bugs. It is so cute, after calendar, when I tell the class, "it's time for Ms. Stacy to read a book" the whole class cheers and claps. She is being coming quite the famous teacher!

In music, we played frisbie toss and "How fast and high can the bee fly."  We learned the song "hands are for helping." This song has been a great tool for students to remember the proper way to use their body with their friends and others.

Please see Ms. Lindsi or Ms. Stacy to sign a permission slip to allow your child to go on a nature walk for our bird nest we are making next Friday.  We also need parent volunteers to make this adventure super fun and safe!

Have a great weekend and we can't wait until next week!

Preschool with Ms. Angie & Ms. Claudia
Backyard Bugs  Haris' Fine Motor Skills

The preschool has gone buggy learning about one of Ms. Angie's favorite things, Backyard Bugs!  We read lots of bug books including; Bug Safari, Old Black Fly, and Anansi the Spider.  We also read Alphabugs by David A. Carter and then made our own Alphabug book.  The kids loved hearing a book we wrote and illustrated.  Ashton did such a great job writing the alphabet into his A is for Ashtonbug bug.  We read bug themed poems by such poets as Robert Frost, Christina Rossetti, and Ogden Nash.  We sang some classic favorite bug songs such as "Bringing home a baby bumblebee" and "The itsy bitsy spider."  When we sing the spider song we also sing about a teeny tiny spider using teeny tiny voices (Pearl really can squeak out a tiny voice) and we sing about a GREAT BIG SPIDER using a GREAT BIG VOICE and even though Brodie does not quite know all the words yet I love his enthusiasm for a GREAT BIG VOICE!
In art, we made butterfly masks, snails, and spiders. We made great bumblebees. The kids did a good job cutting out stripes to glue onto their bumblebees. Rory and Tegan both worked really hard to use their scissors and did a super job. Dylan M. made a spaceship out of his extra paper scraps. Good thinking, kiddo!
For math this week, we counted, matched and glued numbers onto caterpillars. We also counted legs on plastic backyard bugs to determine whether they were bugs, spiders, or insects.
We really enjoyed playing with bug "habitats" in science. We talked about the parts of an insect, what they need to live, and what they do. The kids did a great job acting out the life cycle of a butterfly from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. A few of the butterflies just wanted to stay in their chrysalis' to sleep (Kristin and L.J.) but most turned into beautiful butterflies!
Thank you Dylan K. for the feathers. They will be perfect for our Frogs and Birds theme next week.
Earth Day is fast approaching! If anyone has any "junk" that would be good for trash to treasure sculptures and collages please bring it in. Small boxes, tubes, lids, egg cartons or almost anything really. If you are not sure ask Ms. Angie or Ms. Claudia. Beautifulness will happen!

Toddler School with Ms. Judy & Ms. Courtney
Backyard BugsToddlers Creative Art

The Toddler Class was full of all sorts of creepy crawlies one would spot in the backyard.  The kids had a blast this week as we did all sorts of buggy projects.  We set up a giant spider web in class for the toddlers to crawl through, some even said they got caught in the web! While others caught their own flies! They also made their own personal spider webs with yarn to catch things at home.  We beautified butterflies with colorful jewels, painted caterpillars and we also colored some as well.   We made tiny thumb bug (lady bugs) that was accompanied with a poem.  We also had fun stamping and stickering bugs to work on counting, great job to Henry, Mason and Parker whocounted all their bug stickers perfectly!  For reading we read Glitter Bugs, The Hungry Caterpillar, Shoo Fly, Itsy Bitsy Spider Stories and The Very Busy Spider.  After a busy week of talking about backyard bugs, it is quite obvious that ladybugs are the class favorite; even little Brooklyn had a ladybug sticker on her forhead for an entire day!!  Good job to all our love bugs this week!
