 Spring WatercolorsSpring

This week in art, we did a lot of fun spring projects. The class really enjoyed talking about what they love about Spring.  We made really colorful coffee filter spring flowers, a pretty cherry blossom tree (Molly, Gracie, Kennedy and Sikha loved decorating their cherry blossom trees), and egg carton tulips. For Easter we made a bunny puppet and egg shakers decorated with tissue paper. The class loved making music with their egg shakers. Finally, we dyed real Easter eggs for a special surprise for the Easter bunny! The class also made Easter bags for our spring party, Easter egg hunt.

In Math we sequenced a number puzzle from 11-20. The class has gotten so good at recognizing the larger number. We also practiced counting with jellybeans. We counted all the different colors of jellybeans, made patterns and completed a jellybean skill sheet. We also made a pattern out of spring flowers. It is so wonderful to celebrate Spring.

In writing we practiced writing the letters of the week Kk and Yy. We did Y and K skill sheets and talked about all the words that start with the letters of the week. The class had a hard time thinking of Y words the first day, but then the second day they had tons of words to say and had fun saying the silly words like, yum, yummy, yoke, yuck and yucky!

In Music and Movement we went on an Easter egg hunt while listening to Easter music. We also pretended to be Easter bunnies and played "I can hop higher then the Easter bunny!" We also played a game where we create a spider web by tossing a yarn ball around to our friends for backyard bug week.

In Reading we read, Bunny Trouble, How Leo learned to be King, The Easter bunny is Missing, Chrysanthemum, and Peter Rabbit. The class loved hearing about the Easter bunny books. They are so excited for Easter!

We had a little class Spring party. We dyed Easter eggs, went on an Easter Egg hunt, and ate special Easter cookies. We had a great party and week!!!!

Spring  Dotty Dds

This week, we had a hoppin' good time with our Spring theme.  We read some great stories.  We read Five Little Bunnies Hopping on a Hill.  Of course, that meant we had to hop (oooo we have some good hoppers in class) and we had to make bunnies in art.  We read Storm's Coming.  That has been a class favorite since farm week.  We also read The Golden Egg.  In the story, a rabbit finds an egg.  He doesn't know what is in the egg.  Ms. Angie read the first page of the book and then had the kids draw a picture of what they thought was inside the egg.  Palmer thought there was purple inside the egg.  Neil thought it was a T-Rex.  After every one finished their pictures, we read what all the ideas were and then we finished the story.  It was a duck and the duck and rabbit became friends.  Everyone cheered because it was so great and Dylan K. said "I like that they are friends." Afterward, we pretended to be ducks inside of eggs and we had to hatch out and it was all very fun.
We painted with springy pastel colors, made beautiful spring jewwlry and made rabbit puppets.
We sang little bunny Foo-Foo and because our letter is d this week, we sang a song about Daddy.  There are three d's in daddy! Speaking (typing?) about d.... we also had a disco dance party!  These kids can shake it!!!!  We did the Chicken Dance and the twist.  Ellie taught everyone how to do the Robot.  Jada and Soleil danced so hard they fell over.  Even Lou can shake it when the music takes over!  It was so much fun.
Thank you Soleil for the delicious Passover Bagels and cream cheese.
Thank you everyone for all of the fabric, CD, wipes and other goodies.  It is greatly appreciated.  And Thank you all who take things out of the parent project box.  It really is a huge help and I really can't say how great it feels having you support your child's education (and their teacher's cutting hand)  You guys are FANTASTIC!

Time to welcome in Spring!  This week in the Toddler class was all about coming in like a lion (as Spring does) and creating all sorts of fun and fanciful Spring things.  We made our own "In Like a Lion - Out Like a Lamb" animals out of papers plates, markers and construction papers.  We also made lovely flowers.  One flower we made a fun mask where the children could pop their little heads through the center and the other flowers were created on coffee filters with markers and then misted with water to let the colors run and poof, beautiful Spring flowers for all!  Now if they only smelled as good as they looked!  Also in ringing in Spring we dyed eggs for Easter!  We also studied shapes by making a giant shape puzzle!  All our todlers are right on the nose when it comes to knowing their shapes!!  Mason was the first to spot an oval shape in our classroom.  Following our theme this week we read: Bunny My Honey, Peter Rabbit's -MUNCH!, Meet Benjamin Bunny, Fluffy Bunnies and SHAPES.  Bunny My Honey was without a doubt the classes favorite book we read this week, infact some of the children adopted the term "honey" when getting their friends attention.  Have a fabulous Easter holiday to all our Toddler's families!
