This week we had a lot of fun with all our art projects. We studied different illustrators and authors, Eric Carle, Leo Lionni and Dr. Seuss. We made Dr. Seuss hats with red and white stripes and talked about patterns. Also, we made really pretty rainbow fish with pretty spring colors, we made a very purple collage with all different shapes that were all purple, we also made a very busy spider, and finally we did many different water color pictures. The class loved being creative illustrators. I heard so many times during the week, how much they loved being illustrators.
In math we reviewed counting, shapes, colors and writing all our numbers. We also played number bingo, it was such a fun way to learn all our the numbers from 1-50. The class needed a little help recognizing numbers higher then 20, but they did so good. Connor, Dillon, Taj, Rowan and Olive really understood the game and were so excited to see who would win bingo! Connor won!!!
We read Rainbow fish, The Mouse Thidwich, and Swimmy. We have also been reading books about personal space and manners. Our class needed a refresher on manners and how to respect our friends personal space. We have had a little problem with putting our hands on other classmates without their permission and speaking nicely to our friends. So at home if you could remind your child about personal space and the proper way to treat their friends, that would be awesome.
In music we walked the balance beam while listening to fun music and we also got to play freeze dance. The class loves to get their wiggles out and to be able to express themselves through different styles of dance. Pretty cute to watch the class dance!!!!
We earned fun friday and got to watch two Dr. Seuss movies, while eating popcorn and drinking juice. The class really enjoyed Cat in the Hat! They are really embracing earning marbles for fun friday. This week both Taylor and Dillon reminded their friends to follow the rules and do the right thing, while earning their class a marble. It was so sweet to listen and watch them mature as little people. This makes my heart melt watching the students grow up!

This week, we talked about author/illustrators. The kids have learned over the year that an author writes the words to a story and an illustrator does the pictures. An author/illustrator does the words AND the pictures to a book! Amazingly Cool, if I do say so myself! We read several books by Eric Carle such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Grouchy Ladybug and The Very Busy Spider. We talked about the way Eric Carle does the pictures for his books. Eric Carle paints and then cuts up and collages his paintings into beautiful illustrations for his stories. We did our own paintings and cut them up to make beautiful collage art. We also worked together to paint some large pictures to collage into our own Very Hungry Caterpillar. Dylan K., Haris and Ryland worked so well together on a large green painting. They talked and painted. It is so nice to do art cooperatively. We read Swimmy by Leo Leoni and painted some beautiful watercolor paintings inpired by Leo Leoni's watercolor illustrations of things under the sea. We read Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and we roared our terrible roars and rolled our terrible eyes (who knew Shea could be so scary?) We read Horray for Fish by Lucy Cousins. Dylan M. thinks the upside down fish is funny, Josie's favorite is the sky fish and I think everyone loves the Ele-fish. We read several Dr. Suess books. Dr. Suess is a very famous author/illustrator and the kids think his illustrations are silly. We read Fox in Socks and then we sorted socks putting the colors together in pairs. Several of the girls were quite dissapointed that there were not more pink socks. We looked at our own socks (some of the kids had zero socks on) and every who was wearing socks had two that looked the same on their feet! Good job mommies and daddies! We also read The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Came Back. That cat sure causes a lot of mischeif. Most of the kids think it would be a bad idea to have the Cat visit their house. At the end of The Cat in the Hat, it asks if you would tell your mother about what happened when she was gone away. To protect the innocent, I will not print which children would tell their moms and which children would not. You will have to ask on your own. Our letter this week is C. We sang "C is for __________" (you fill in the blank with a c work) all throughout the week. We made cars out of our cracker and carrot snacks. We counted cows (Grace is getting better at writing numbers). We colored caterpillars and made caterpillars out of pom-poms. We also counted and counted and counted. Happy birthday Josie! Such a big 4 year old now! You are now officially a big kid! Happy birthday Rory! You are 3!!!! I remember when you signed instead of spoke! Now you have so much to say! It is spring now! Everyone go enjoy the springyness of it! Thank you to Rory and her mom, Brittany for bringing a bit of spring inside with the beautiful tulips. The class loves them. Andy said they smell delicious.

This week we reviewed our favorite books and the great pictures and stories they contain. From the stories of Clifford to the famous tank engine, Thomas, we were quite the busy class crafting and designing images from our favorite books. Monday, we as a class, made a BIG RED DOG (Clifford) and had a blast painting him red. Tuesday we created our own abstract MIckey Mouses and boy did we have a "HOT DOG" time doing so! Also this week we had fun making Dr. Seuss and Thomas collages as well as coloring some of Eric Carle's famous figures. We read The Busy Spider, Thomas and Friends, Mickey and Friends-A Counting Book, Dr. Seuss - ABC Book and Clifford's Shoolhouse. It was a sticky and colorful week for us in class! The kids are loving reading, and it is showing. They know almost all the books they love by heart, such as Green Eggs and Ham and Polar Polar What Do You Hear? This week we also continued with colors, recognized and pointed out where certain colors appear in books...Eric Carle was a great author to use for this. Lauren receives an A+ for her color knowledge!
