Writing/Reading: This week we were busy working hard writing our letters of the week, Rr and Ww.
It is so neat to hear the words some of the students come up by sounding out the sounds of the letters. Leah and Taylor were so excited to share that their last names start with W. We did some very fun writing skill sheets. The class is progressing so much on their writing skills. We also continued working on our sight words and working on the sounds of our previous letters of the week.

The class really enjoyed art this week. We made really pretty rain pictures with blue glue drops, rainbows to learn the order of the rainbow colors, created a cool art project to celebrate Dr. Seuss month and made a fish bowl to go with the book, Cat in the Hat. To work on primary colors and their complementing color, we made a paper plate color wheels to help them see and remember their colors. Lastly, we made a coffee filter picture, using water color paints, sooo beautiful!

In Math, we started working on numbers higher then 10. We practiced counting and writing numbers 10-30. We also did skills sheets to practice recognizing our shape and following directions. We told the class to color each shape  a different color, so they had to find the right color, correct shape and follow the directions. This is such a huge step for kid's growth, to be able to remember and following the directions.

Reading Time: Ms. Stacy read, "This Is the Rain," "Splish! Splash!," "The Rainbow and You," "The Cat and the Hat," and "Yertle the Turtle."

Music Time: We did freeze dance and the movement game with our friends.

Great Week!

This week's Rain and Rainbows theme has been colorful and fun.  We have been learning what makes a rainbow (rain and sunshine), what colors are in a rainbow (except there is no convincing a bunch of 3 and 4 year old girls that pink is not one of them), and that we need rain to help everything grow.
In art, we have made rainbows, stormy rain clouds, and umbrellas with rain drops all around.  Ashleigh worked really hard to paint all of her colors in the lines and Dylan M.'s red rainbow was very red.  He was very excited about it.  Brodie did his first painting in class and really enjoyed using the different colors.
In math, we matched raindrops to the numbers on paper clouds and we also really loved using the peg stackers to make towers and then counting how many pegs in the tower and making patterns and creating rainbows too.  Peg Stackers Rock!
We built with blocks we made out of boxes we painted.  The blocks are beautiful.  The kids did such a great job!
In the car area, we added some ramps we that we made out of cardboard and paint.  It was such fun to zoom the cars on the ramps.  I liked how Kaden and Tegan worked as a team to control each end of the U shaped ramp to help the cars go back and forth.  Super Fun!
We learned a song called "A Rainbow!" and we sang "I know the colors of the rainbow"  and the "What color are you wearing today" song.
Our letter of the week was Z!  Zip!  Zam!  Zoom!  We learned a song about Zelda and a poem about a bumble bee (they say zzzzzzzz, you know!)  We enjoyed the tickle on our tongues when we make a Z sound.  We also sang "Bringing home a baby bumble bee"  The Bee kept stinging us and at the end Ms. Angie said, "maybe we shouldn't catch bumblebees" and Lou responded "We should catch ladybugs, they're nice."  Lou is very insightful, don't you think?  We also enjoyed several zebra activities.  Zebras are fun.
Thank you to the families of Kristin, Lou, and Monica for all of the classroom goodies this week.  It's so much appreciated.

Rain and Rainbows Toddler Discovery Time

This week the Toddler class drew, painted, sung, cut and pasted all things to do with rain and rainbows.   Monday we read, "What Makes A Rainbow" and the class the painted one giant rainbow, got down and dirty and loved it!  They also sang, "It's raining, it's pouring"and painted large raindrops.  We read "The Rainbow Fish" and colored our own spectacular multicolored fish.  We recognized Dr. Seuss this month and read our two favorite books, "The Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham."  We made silly "Cat in the Hat" hats and pipe cleaner figures of "Thing One and Thing Two," as well as "The Cat in the Hat."  Finally we let loose and made rainbow streamer wands and strutted our moves around the class room to various tunes.  It was a blast!
