 PreK Class TimeDental Health

In Math we reviewed our shapes and we played, Shape Bingo and Taj filled his board first. He was so excited. We also did a couple more and less skill sheets. The class is getting really good at understanding what more and less means and they are also learning what number is more and what number is less then another without having objects in front of them. And finally we always practice writing each number. The class is getting so good at writing the tricky numbers, like 2,3,4 and 5.

In Writing we worked really hard on letter sounds. We did some lessons where there were pictures and letters and the class had to sound out the picture and pick which letter connects with the picture.  Leah and Jack did really good with this lesson. We also worked on our letters of the week, which were Dd and Tt. These letters were pretty easy for the class to learn to write. We are now adding to our writing curriculum, not only writing the letters but also writing words that start with the letters of the week. The class is doing so wonderful at this challenge.

We were busy in art this week. We made marshmallow teeth, sand art, drawing of our self and labeling our body parts including our mouth and teeth. We talked about what makes us smile and why our teeth are important to us and our smiles.

In Health circle we talked about what is healthy for our teeth and how to keep our teeth clean and strong. We did an activity that helped the class understand what is healthy for our teeth and what is not, by circling the healthy choices and x-ing out the bad choices.
We also had a local Dentist group come in and talk to the class about the tools they use at the dentist office, how to prevent cavities, what is good to eat for your teeth, and how fun it is to visit the dentist.

In reading Ms. Stacy read the books, "Nice Try," "Lose that Tooth," "The Tooth Fairy," and "Going to the Dentist." The class was so interested in learning to keep their teeth clean and strong.

In Music we learned the song, "Are you teeth clean and white" and balance beam walking! The class was really good at balancing.

Great Week!

Smile Big!  This week's "Dental Health" theme gave the Preschoolers many reasons to show off their pearly whites.
We read great books including "Vera's Trip to the Dentist" and "Andrew's Loose Tooth."  The kids get really into "Andrew's Loose Tooth."  Ellie "ploishes the apple on her shirt" just like Andrew does and everyone sneezes along with Andrew.

We learned some new songs.  "The tooth brush song" is fun and interactive.  The kids get to take turns choosing toothbrush colors.  All the kids got to hold a copy of the words to "A Sparkly Smile" so they could "read" along if they couldn't remember the words.  Dylan M. sang louder than ever and everyone like to tell the cavities to "stay away!"

We learned the parts of a tooth and how to take good care of our teeth.  Kristin brushes her teeth "all of the days."

In art we made teeth which we painted with toothbrushes, nice toothy mouths and tooth brushes.  We worked together to paint a great big smile and toothbrush.

In math, we counted teeth and practiced writing numbers.  Ashton counted and copied numbers from 1 to 40!!!  Wowza!!!

Yahoo!  Yipee!  Our letter this week is Y!  We made yellow Y's, yarn pictures, did Y shaped mazes and built with yogurt containers.  We made Y's with our bodies.  Andy loved being a Y then an X then a Y again over and over.  What a giggle-inducing workout for all.

Happy 3rd Birthday to Ryland!  We are so excited for you buddy!

Happy 4th birthday Kristin!  We are loving all of the things you can ddo "now that you are 4!"

This week in Toddlers we talked about "Dental Health."  We painted healthy and juicy little red apples with a short poem that talked about why it is a good snack for your teeth.  We brushed/painted our pearly whites until they sparkled (using glitter) and we of course had to follow the class traditions of making marshmallow toothy grins!  We did apple slice painting and colored various sheets that talked about going to the dentist, brushing your teeth till they shine and more.  We also read some books to remind us to be kind, gentle and to share.  We also read for a reminder "The Tooth book" and "No Fighting - No biting." Our friends know in class that is not something we do with our teeth!!
