Pre-Kindergarten with Ms. Lindsi & Ms. Stacy
 PreK US FlagsPresidents

In Writing we worked on letters Ww & Pp. We talked about all the words that start with our letters of the week.  We also drew a picture and wrote a paragraph about "If I Were President."  Kennedy and Zoi were excited to talk about what they would look like as president.

In Math we worked on More and Less.  We first practiced on the white board then progressed to our worksheets. We also played the number movement game, where the children had to find the appropriate number and do the appropriate number movement activity. Taj, Caden, Molly, Taylor, Rowan and Olive did so good recognizing the number and doing the appropriate movement activity.

Ms. Stacy read "So You Want to be President", "Scrambled States of America",and "America the Musical".  Olive's dad Stephen came in to visit us and he read "Duck for President and he bought our class a special book, "Knuffle Bunny."  The children loved having a dad visit!

In Reading we are also learning one of the first steps to reading, blending sounds and learning sight words, for example, in is it to the I a am. They all are catching on to the basic skill of reading very quickly. It is so awesome to see all their progress!

In Art we were busy.  We made penny puppets, popsicle stick log cabins, Taj, Sean, Dillon and Logan thought it was super cool to build their own log cabin. Boys love to build.  We also created the American Flag, and put together a book about George Washington.

In Social Studies we talked about the 1st, 16th, 35th and the 44th presidents. We also talked about what state the president lives in and the color of his house. We talked about what the presidents duties are and the name of the plane he flies in. The whole class loved to learn about our past and current president and they really thought being the president would be tons of fun.

In Music we had an obstacle course and hula hoop passing to fun music. Music time is so great for the class to get their wiggles out!

We had a great week in Pre-K, we have 9 marbles left to earn for another fun Friday!!!

This week's theme was Presidents.  We learned a bit about about the two presidents that have held office during the kids' life times and a bit more about several men that have been president in the past.  We read a story called The Life of Abraham Lincoln, we made log cabins like Abraham Lincoln lived in when he was a boy, we learned that Abraham Lincoln kept important papers in his hat and then talked about what important things we would keep in our hats.  Dylan M. would keep candy in his, Grace would keep a toy dragon and the ever-practical Pearl would keep her head in her hat.  We also read What Presidents are made of.  This book had fabulous portraits made out of various objects representing many presidents and interesting facts such as William Taft was such a large man that he once got stuck in the bathtub, Theodore Roosevelt liked to play hide and seek and enjoyed pillow fights (who doesn't?) and the kids thought it was funny that Bill Clinton got into trouble with his teachers for talking too much.  We learned about some of the pets that have lived in the White House over the years and made collages about it.  I love the way L.J. colored the White House so beautifully with multicolored columns and such lovely window panes.
Our letter this week was X.  Palmer really liked the Xavier the extraterestrial song.  We made our bodies into X's and made the sound an X makes.  The kids were great and if an X wandered into the class it would have felt right at home!  We also painted boXes for the letter x and used blocks to build x's.

Happy Birthday Ellie!  Our little Ellie is not so little anymore!  Big 3!!!!!

Thanks to all of you who volunteered, all of you who were volunteered, and all of you who showed up to share in the fun for our Valentines' party!  I was so excited to have so many of you there.

Presidents  Mason and Lauren

In Toddlers this week we talked about probably the most two most well known Presidents: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  The kids all painted and created their very own Lincoln black top hats, we did coin shading with quarters, pennies, nickles and dimes (Lauren was very good at spotting the coin prints when they showed up on the other side of the paper).  We also had fun making popsicle stick log cabins with roofs and even Mr. Lincoln looking out the window!
We also did some Presidential coloring sheets.  For music we continue our GO CARS CD.  And for comparisons and differentiating we talking about how Lauren and Finley have curly hair and Henry and Mac have straight hair.  The girls love to help us teachers with labeling who's bags are whoss in class and our favorite was during snack who got the most goldfish and pretzles (counting - and of eating of course).
