Groundhogs Day & Habitats
In Math we worked so hard on learning about more and less. They are really understanding the concept of more now. At the beginning they would think more meant bigger objects and less meant smaller objects. As we continued to work on these concepts, they understood to count the objects and see which number is bigger, which means more and which number is smaller and that means less. The class really grasped the concept right away, once I explained it. The class really loves to learn new ideas and concepts. We also continued to practice counting, but put a little twist to it. Ms. Stacy and I had the class fill in the blank spots as we counted to 40. For example, 1234567891011_1213141516_17181920_22, Caden, Molly and Rowan loved doing this.
In Writing we practiced writing the letters of the week, Gg and Hh. The class is getting so good at writing the their letters. It makes Ms. Stacy and I so happy how well they are writing their strokes. We also talk about the sounds of our letters and what words start with G and H. The class always amazes Ms. Stacy and I with what great words they come up with by using the sounds of our letters of the week. Connor came up with the word germ, Taj came up with the words great and happy, and Logan came up with the words hand and hair.
In Art/Science we learned what a groundhog and their habitat looks like. We also learned and created a picture of a frog's life cycle. The class was so interested in the frog's life cycle. We made a viper snake and talked about all the different types of snakes, where they live and what they eat. We also talked about and created a Mexican Gray Wolf and talked about their habitat.
Music was so fun this week, Ms. Stacy put together a Groundhog game where the children hid in their holes (orange carpet circles) until "Spring" was called then they came out to play. When she said "Winter" they went back to sleep for the "6 weeks". We also played "Hoop Pass" where we passed the hoop around the circle without using our hands and played on the balance beam.
In Reading, we read about "Big Al", a rock fish and his habitat and relationship with others. The children asked numerous questions regarding why someone would be scared based on anothers looks. "Quack Quack, Waddle Waddle" taught us about the habitat of ducks. We spoke about how we shouldn't leave our parents side. "Counting Crocodiles"was very fun and the boys in class have been waiting to have it read out loud. The "Mixed Up Chameleon" made everyone laugh and we learned about how animals can change to blend in with their habitat. |

Groundhogs Day & Habitats
This week in Preschool, we have been busy exploring where different animals live and celebrated Groundhogs Day. We read Groundhogs Day, Verdi, and The Biggest Thing in The Ocean. The Biggest Thing in The Ocean was so funny that the kids wanted to hear it again right away and they giggled and laughed at each page! We also had a great time talking about the habitats of different animals such as whales, penguins, monkeys and worms. Bringing up the subject of worms caused quite a conversation amongst the kids. Talking about arctic and antarctic animals also had the kids quite excited because that was our theme not long ago so they knew quite a bit about polar animals and it also reminded Grace how much she enjoyed being a reindeer. We learned a new song called "Did you ever see a groundhog?" Monica has started a chorus of "the balloon song" a few times so we have continued to sing it quite a bit. It is a class favorite. In art, we made groundhog puppets and undersea animal pictures. In math we continued to talk about same and different and we have been talking about more than and less than. V was the letter this week. V for Valentine, vegetables, Velcro, and Varoom! We had a great time "Varooming" out the door to go to "The Big Room!" We had fun practicing a v sound because it tickles your lips. So silly. Andy's giggle and smile after a good VVVVVV is awesome! We made some pretty "V is for Valentine" collages, listened to Velcro and practiced writing Vs. L.J.'s handwriting is getting so good! Monica brought in some yummy Valentine cupcakes for the class to share. Thanks Monica! They were Verry good! We are excited to have Jackson start class with us this week. Great Job Jackson! Next Friday, February 12th, from 12 to 1 is our valentine's party. If you would like to join us, we'd love to have everyone there, so just let us know! If you would like to help out in anyway, please talk to Ms. Claudia or Ms. Angie. We have a few wonderful mommy helpers already joining us and we are so excited!

Groundhogs Day & Habitats
This week in the Toddler class was all about learning what some habitats are. What, who and where animals hibernate, with a special focus on the cute groundhog! We colored our own groundhogs (also known as woodchucks) and even made paper bag puppet groundhogs. For habitats and hibernation we colored frogs and painted lily pads in ponds (because that's where we decided frogs live) and decorated fuzzy bears in caves (because that's where they like to sleep when it's cold outside..and sleep ALONG time!). Also this week we read: "Sleepy Bear" by Lydia Dabcovich, "Every Autumn Comes the Bear" by Jim Arnosky and "Time to Sleep" by Denis Fleming. This week we welcomed our new friend, Ellie to our class, it's great to have a new face; and sadly we also had to say good bye to our happy and smiley buddy, Willie. The kids and teachers loved Willie's smiling face every day he came to school, we hope to see him again soon.
Next week (on Friday) we our decorating Valentine's Day baskets for the kids, so if you'd like a list of the kids in class please ask Ms. Judy or Ms. Courtney.
