Chinese New Year - Art & Color
Art - We had a creative week in art. For Chinese New Year we made red dragons, a rice picture and Chinese masks. We talked about colors and joined all our multiple colored hand prints around our earth. We also talked about how small hands can save the world. Caden had such a "green" idea, remember to turn off your electricity, so you don't waste power!!!
Math - We counted lucky money in math this week. All the kids thought they were rich with ten pennies. We also sorted blocks and created patterns. We are getting better at one, two and three patterns. It was really neat to see all their creative minds thinking.
Writing - The letters of the week where Aa and Zz. We practiced writing our letters and did multiple skill sheets to practice. Gracie is working so hard with her writing and she did such a great job this week with writing A and Z.
Music - "Chinese New Year E I E I O." They learned all the Zodiac signs for Chinese New Year and that this is the year of the Tiger. They loved learning about what sign they were.
Reading - Ms. Stacy found great books to help the kids learn about and understand what Chinese New Year's is all about. The kids were so interested in learning about this holiday and were so involved in each and every story. |

Chinese New Year - Art & Color
Our Chinese New Year/ colors theme has been fun, fun! (Double theme, double fun) The highlights of both themes have been full of action. The kids really enjoy acting out different animals from the Chinese zodiac symbols. This is the "Year of the Tiger" and when the kids turn into tigers...WOW, we almost have to hide! It's like there is a whole pride of lions in the room! Yikes! But then they turn into the best hopping rabbits and then the cutest little dogs. It makes you want to pet each of them (Dylan K. has such good puppy dog eyes). A fun active way to explore color identification is to color hunt. A teacher will shout out a color and the kids scatter trying to find things in the classroom that are that color. Busy, loud and fun. We also have enjoyed learning about making patterns. We made action patterns (for example clap, jump, clap, jump, etc.) sound patterns, (snap, clap, snap, clap) and color patterns (red, green, red, green). Ashton, Kristin and Lou are pattern whiz'! In art, we made a different color collage each day. We made Dragon puppets (Palmer used his puppet to carry things. We appreciate how Palmer comes up with new ways to use an object), dragons out of egg cartons, and collages out of the Chinese Zodiac animals which made Ashleigh exclaim "Puppies! Puppies! I love puppies!" In math, we sorted things. We sorted squares by size and we sorted some of our wooden blocks by color. Grace was very proud when she sorted all the colors correctly. Good job, Grace! We read There is a Dragon in my Sleeping Bag and 4 counting books that Ellie donated to the school (thanks Ellie). The kids enjoyed helping subtract the animals in each book. U was our letter this week. The kids thought it was pretty funny when there was a U was drawn on their snack napkins so they could make their goldfish crackers into a U! We also glued Umbrella's onto our big U and practiced going Under things! We had a double birthday week too! Aaren turned 3 on Sunday and we enjoyed celebrating with him on Monday! Happy Birthday Aaren! I remember when you were just a little guy! On Friday, we celebrated Rio's 3rd birthday with him! Happy Birthday Rio! I remember when you were just an itty bitty little thing! We are so glad both of these kids are in class with us! Such fun boys!

Chinese New Year - Art & Color
This week in Toddlers we celebrated Chinese New Year and colors of the rainbow. We made Chinese New Year wreaths, made a rainbow kite and painted and colored with the color yellow. One of our art highlights was our class made dragon using our handprints (check it out on the wall). We read stories about color and did "On the Go" for music time.
Special visitor of the week: Mason's mommy, Zie Zie came in and painted everyone's faces to look like a tiger, it was soooo fun!!!! Thank you Zie Zie! | |
