Celebrating Differences
Writing - The letters of the week are: Ll and Qq
We had a lot of fun learning letter Ll words. The class thought it was so cool to have three classmates that start with Ll. Rowan and Connor thought it was so funny that Ms. Lindsi starts with Ll. We thought Qq would be hard for the class to learn to write, but they did such a great job! We practiced writing words a lot this week. This class loves to write! It is cute to see how much passion they have!
Social Studies - The class, Ms. Stacy and I talked about how everyone is different, and everyone has their own beauty. We never want to judge anyone because we are all equal.
The class also celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. We talked about his dream to make everyone equal. It was really neat to see all the students' thinking caps go on as we discussed MLK. They were all so interested in every detail. For example, how old he is, where he lived and after finding out he is no longer living, how did he died.
Art - This week in art has been super fun. We learned to celebrate all different types of people. We talked about how we are different from our friends and from other children all over the world. We created a picture and world globe to celebrate our differences. We made a MLK puppet and colored a picture of two friends playing. While they were coloring we talked about what they like about themselves and their friend. Kennedy and Arianna both love their hair!!!
Music - We learned a friendship song, named,
"Friends, Friends 123." While we sang, we all held hands and walked around in a circle. They really enjoyed learning the song and smiling at their friends.
Math - This week we had a pop quiz in Math. I didn't tell them that! We wanted to see where everyone was at. We talked about the directions and we explained what we wanted them to do. It was to practice following directions and counting numbers. We also worked more on patterns sorting objects. |

Celebrating Differences
This week in preschool, we "celebrated differences." In order to celebrate differences we needed to figure out what different means. So we have spent a lot of time talking about "same and different." A great book to help illustrate this concept is Two Eggs, Please. Everyone in a diner orders two eggs but, everyone would like them prepared in a different way, same but different. We noticed everyone in our class has two eyes but everyone's eyes are different colors. Even two people with blue eyes have different shades of blue. We have also read No One Has a Funny Name. It's great to talk about what makes each of us special and unique and to learn that even when someone seems so different from you that you may have some things be the same. In art, we drew self portraits and talked about what is different about us. Ashleigh is super proud that she can do a hula hoop. And Grace cracked us up when she said "I'm kind of silly, you know!" In another project, we chose two people shapes, one for ourselves and one to represent our friend. Then we decorated them and said what is something that is different about us and our friend. Andy chose L.J. as his friend and said L.J. has long long hair. L.J. friend (meaning himself) has no long hair. (how cute is that?) Shea chose his stuffed lion and said "Fan Lion is yellow. I'm not yellow." Such sweet responses - this is why teachers teach. T is our letter this week. Yahoo, Tegan! It's your letter! We learned how to say turtle in sign language and sang the "Tiny Tim" song. We made turtles out of bowls, paper, paint and glue (all of those important things). Dylan M.'s turtle has two faces. Even turtles have differences to be celebrated! We also made T's out of tape and painted over the paper and then pulled off the tape and WOW Magic! The letter T! The kids thought this was super cool and Wyatt waited so patiently for his turn and then was so proud of his work. For Martin Luther King Jr. day, we looked at pictures of Martin Luther King Jr., talked a bit about the important things he did and learned a song called "Martin's Dream" We sang it over and over. Everyone had their own copy of the lyrics so they could "read" and sing along with me. Happy Birthday to Neil. Neil is 3! We had a super fun cupcake decorating party for Neil. Neil we are glad you are in class with us. And thanks so much for sharing your "DINOLOVE" with your friends and giving the class the super cool dinosaur egg. We can't wait to watch what happens! Thanks Ryland for the beautiful Tulips in class. It's nice to have a touch of spring in the room.

Celebrating Differences
This week in Toddlers we discussed and discovered differences and similarities in people. We did art that represented that we all share one small world, so let's all try and get along. We made our own happy friends out of different colored paper and colors We talked about how though we look and act different, we all have the same feelings. We even showed each other different emotions and other facial expressions. We read the book "Shades of Black" (one of Mac's favorites) and how colors, sizes and shapes do not matter in people. We all dove into opposites some more by talking about happy vs sad faces on kids. We also did a bunch of color matching; A+ to Parker who knows all her colors! We are also creating abstract pictures with cartoon vs real pictures (Mickey Mouse vs. A Real Mouse).
