We continued working on worksheets for food vocabulary. We LOVE to sing "Feliz Navidad" (Merry Christmas) and we learned Santa Claus is called Papa Noel in Spanish while doing an art project. Our story for this week was El Arbol de Navidad Perfecto (The Perfect Christmas Tree).

Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Happy New Year!!!!

We are so excited for the many wonderful things to come in 2010 and more importantly, to have the opportunity to share them with each and every one of you.

A couple of things we need your support with:

1.  We are in need of more baby wipes.  We would truly appreciate it, if  families could contribute what they can.  :-)

2.  Pre:K Families: If arriving to school after 9:20, please drop-off at the "little door."  This will support the teachers in maintaining their class schedule and teaching the curriculum for the day.  We truly appreciate your help with this.

3.  Parent/Teacher Conferences are available during the month of February.  Please see your child's teacher to schedule a time.  Families with children attending Kindergarten in Sept '10, will be required to schedule one with Ms. Lindsi.

4.  Sign-In procedure has changed a bit.  Please now sign your child in and out.  We truly appreciate your cooperation.

                        Warmly,

Your PEAKE Academy Teaching Staff

*Art - Marshmallow igloos - Taj & Sean worked the longest, not leaving the table until they had perfected their building skills.  Snowy mountain pictures were made by all with Molly excelling at color coordinating the night sky with hot pink stars.  Our paper icicles were a big hit and are on display in the classroom.  Tomorrow we will be creating pinecone penguins.

*Math - Patterns, cubes, More and Less and subtraction skills were explored.

*Writing - we worked with the letters c and u.

*Reading -  We shared the books "Penguin Pete", "Polar Animals", "Tacky At the Olympic Games", and the "Ice Cream Bear.

*Calendar and Strategy were filled with opposites, cold climates, top/bottom, letter sounds, talks about the season, brainstorming words that begin with the letter of the week.

Brrrrr!  All this talk about Cold Climates in preschool has me reaching for my scarf and hat!  We have enjoyed focusing on snow and all of the fun that goes along with it this week and it has given us a chance to relive all the adventures that were had during our recent snowfall.  We read The Twelve Days of Winter, The Snowy Day, and  The Mitten.  Soleil was so excited to see The Mitten back in the library.  She told us all about all of the animals and how silly the story is.  If you want to know more about it, you can ask Soleil.  She'd be happy to let you know!  We sang "The chubby little snowman" and "The snow is falling today."  We made some great art projects.  We painted with snowpaint (shaving cream with a bit of glue), made snowballs,  and cute snowmen.  We painted a snow mural.  Monica really enjoyed painting on such a large piece of paper.  We also did a great lacing project.  Dylan K. is really proud of his sewing and carried his project around for quite some time.  And just for fun and to use our bodies in different ways, we practiced making snowangels and skiing!  Yahoo,  snow is fun!!!
Do you know what a pirate's favorite letter is?     RRRRRRRRR!   Our letter of the week of course!  We know so many people who's names start with R!  In our class Rio's, Ryland's, Rory's and our new friend Rowan's names all beging with the letter R!  That's Radical (sorry-  I couldn't come up with a more modern word begining with R)!  Lou and Ashton both made sure everyone knew they had siblings whose names begin with R.  So here is a  shout out  to Riley and Rowan!  We read rabbit stories and made beautiful ribbon R's.  Thank you so much Rory for bringing in all of the beautiful ribbons to decorate your special letter with!  Our big class R looks great!
A big YEAH  for Andy who is now 3!  Thanks for being our friend and bringing us the biggest, pinkest elephantiest cookies ever to share!
Welcome to our new friends Jada and Rowan!  We can't wait to get to know you better and share all of our fun with you!

This week we learned about chilly places and creatures that reside there.  For Creative Art, we colored snowy owls, made arctic foxes and silly penguins, painted igloos and created barometers. The kids also read about these little arctic animals and cold climates in books such as "Penguins,"

"Baby Beluga" and more.  We welcomed a new face to our little family, Riley (Lou's little sister).  We continue to learn about our numbers, one of Mason's favorite activities and we have begun to talk about what shapes things are.  Happy New Year to all Peake Academy families and our class, we look forward to enjoying another year with you!
