Dear PEAKE Academy Families,
With the holidays fast approaching we are asking families to share their vacation plans. Each classroom has an "attendance plan" sheet. Please take a moment to let us know if and when your child will be attending class during the holiday weeks.
Have you seen the tables by the front desk? Stop by and learn all about how you and your family can help us "Set the Table."
Nov & Dec Scholastic book orders due Friday, 20th, so that we can have them back in time for the holidays.
Warmly,
Your PEAKE Academy Teaching Staff |

Native Americans
This week we learned about Native Americans. We learned
that Native Americans lived in America long before anyone else but that they
still live in America today, too. We also learned how they hunted some animals
for food, clothing, and shelter. Miss Danaye told us the story about how
Christopher Columbus thought he was in India when he discovered America and how
he nicknamed the Native Americans that he saw "Indians" so now we call them
Native American Indians!
Our letters of the week were "Nn" and "Aa." We learned how to write these
letters and talked about what words start with them. We even found all of the
capital and lower case "Nn"s and "Aa" in the words Native Americans. Our class
focused on the number 9 this week because nine starts with "n"! We learned how
to write the word "nine", number "9"s, and drew 9 jellybeans in a jar!
In art we made totem poles, Native American feather headbands, decorated
horses with tribal symbols, colored and glued together Native American people,
and designed our Native American symbols. Our art projects went along with
the stories we read this week. We read Star Boy, Sacagawea and the Bravest
Deed, The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, Arrow to the Sun, The Story of Raven and
the Moon, and Quillworker: A Cheyenne Legend.
Our star student this week was Logan and he rocked!

Native Americans
This week in Preschool, we learned about Native Americans and a bit about their
heritage and culture. It's important to know that many of the things we made in
art and learned about in class are examples of things that may be from the past
or ceremonial. For example the feather headdresses we made in art are not
something you would see a Native American child wearing around the house, but
something they might wear for special activities. We read some great stories
including Giving Thanks, A Native American Message, and Ten Little
Bunnies. In art, we made tee pees. We decorated the tee pees and then used
tea (a great natural dye-and Ellie thought it smells good too) to paint them
light brown so they would look like buffalo skin. We also made wigwams, native
symbols collages, Native American children (L.J. decided she would make a baby
and it wouldn't need hair) and we worked together to make a great big totem
pole. We are so proud of our totem pole! Kristin was very excited that she can
pick it up. "Because I'm SO strong!" is how she does it. We feather sorted and
counted in math. We did some fancy shawl dancing during our pow-wow. These
preschoolers have some moves!
Our letter this week is J! J is for Josie! J is
for jump! We jumped and jumped and jumped! We played a letter recognition game
and every time a J or j card was drawn, we had to get up, jump and sing the "J
is for jumping" song! After all of the dancing and jumping in a day of
preschool, no wonder Ms. Angie and Ms. Catherine sleep so well!

Native Americans
This week the Toddlers the class had an amazing time learning about Native Americans through art. They created beautiful totem poles, inspiring dreamcatchers and fun bark canoes. They put on their feather headbands and did the rain dance all around the classroom.
