Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Happy November!

Our apologies that the weekly newsletter did not find its way to you last week.  It must have gotten gobbled up by the ghosts and goblins.  Thank you to the families that were able to our spooktacular PLAY Bootique.  Treats and fun were had by all!

We need your help!

Pre-Kindergarten with Ms. Lindsi & Ms. Danaye
 PK Math TimeEarth Cycles

This week we learned about Earth Cycles, and really focused on the four seasons.  We also talked about what a cycle is and how it repeats over and over.  This lead to discussions about recycling , and wheels, and we even have a "wheel turning" hand motion to remind us about how cycles go round and round!

Our letters of the week were "Ee" and "Oo" and we really practiced hard to write our "Ee"s (because most of us can already make circles!) Leah and Arianna worked so hard, their papers were put on the "Best Work of the Week" Board! In math we continued to practice writing our numbers.  Miss Lindsi's math group started working on subtraction, while Miss Danaye's math group focused on the number 9.  Both math groups did an apple tree project, and Alex and Logan did such a great job on theirs that they were also featured on the "Best Work of the Week" Board!

In art we made 4 seasons "Trees" books and did tree collages for each season.  We also painted autumn leaves yellow, orange, and brown to show how a leaf turns colors as it goes through its own life cycle.  We also learned that leaves change colors because they lose chlorophyll, which makes them green, as the season changes and it gets colder outside because there is less sun.

We read the books Leaves, Big Red Apple, The Biggest Leaf Pile, From Acorn to Oak Tree, Colorful Leaves, & A Day at the Apple Orchard.  Aidan was the Star Student this week and he did a super job at being a great leader and role model for his friends!

This week in Preschool, we talked about the seasons changing from summer to fall and all of the wonderful changes happening in the world around us.  We read fall books including When the Leaf Blew In (Aaren especially enjoyed this one), Fall is for Friends, It's Fall! and The Leaf Man. Kristin and Ashton always remembers where the leaf man goes.  We also read all of our Halloween books one last time and said "bye, see you next year."  Dylan M. used such a sweet voice saying bye to the haunted house book.  I know that is his favorite.  We talked about fall also being called Autumn. We discussed what people do in the fall like wearing warmer clothing and what some animals are doing now like squirrels gathering and eating lots of nuts.  We learned a new song called "Autumn leaves are falling down" (We become the leaves and fall down at the end of the song- Neil falls with gusto!)  We sang that a lot.  I think it will be a favorite all season.  We've been really working on counting this week.  We counted leaves, blocks, kids and acorns. Soliel is 9 acorns tall!   We expecially enjoyed talking about leaves this week and all of the beautiful colors we are seeing on the trees (and the ground too).  We sorted leaves. We counted leaves.  We painted leaves.  We glued leaves.  We even jumped in, stomped on and threw leaves in the air!  What a fabulous fall activity!

Happy Birthday L.J.  We are so excited your 4!!!  Thanks for bringing in a special 4 year old snack and having your mom read a wonderful Dancing Dora story!

Earth CyclesToddlers Giant Pumpkin

This week the Toddlers didn't "leaf" anything out when we did our Fall art.  From frogs to squirrels with their nuts, to our giant class tree with its autumn leaves.  The kids had a blast!  We read various books on Fall and some on Turkey Day.  We talked about the four seasons and what it looks and feels like outside during each one and then each student made their own weather chart.  Friday we all enjoyed Fall's most popular fruit, the apple.  Tasting and painting with them.  We were quite impressed with Palmer already knowing what happens in the fall, 'leaves fall from the trees to the ground."

"Set the table."

Each classroom will be putting together items to create one full Thanksgiving dinner for 3 families at the Raphael House of Portland.  Next week you will see 3 tables (one for each class) with examples of items that you and your family could provide, to help us "set the table."  This is one of many great ways to get your family involved in helping others.
More info to follow.
