Community Helpers
This week we are learning about community helpers! There are
many different helpers that make our community a safe and fun place to live.
Dillon's dad, Christian who is a police officer, paid us a visit to teach us about
how the police help and protect our community. We sang our 9-1-1 song again and
talked about a 9-1-1 operators job and what we should tell them if we need help.
We also did art projects about other community helpers we don't usually
think about. We colored our own garbage trucks and street sweepers and talked
about how they help our community by keeping it clean. The entire week we made
art projects and compiled them into a book entitled "How I Can Help My
Community."
Our letters of the week are "Cc" and "Vv". We painted letter "C" car
curves with little cars and continued to practice writing our curves and
diagonal lines to form our letters. Miss Danaye's math group worked on the
number 3 and we made a triangle collage to show that triangles are the only
shape with three sides, and that they come in all shapes and sizes! Miss
Lindsi's math group continued to work on writing their numbers and
addition!
We read the Tonka books Working Hard with the Rescue Helicopter, Fire
Trucks in Action, and also read Snow White Finds a Home: A Book About Helping,
and Little Miss Helpful.

Community Helpers
This week's Community Helper theme was so much fun. We read A Day at the
Police Station. Officer Christian (Dillon's Dad) came in to talk to
us about what Police officers do in our community and how Police officers can
help us! He answered lots of questions and let us see his badge and other
police gear! Thank You, Thank You, Officer Christian. You are Awesome!
During
the week we explored lots of different community helpers. We made police hats
and badges. We wrote letters and made our own mail carrier bags to talk about
Postal Workers. We talked about many of the community helpers such as
carpenters, construction workers, and Mr. Neil (Mr. Neil does much of our "fix
it" work at the PLAY Boutique and the kids often see him fixing things for us)
who build and fix things.
We read Tool Book by Gail Gibbons, made tool
collages and sang "the hammer song." (and No I am not refering to MC Hammer's
"Can't touch this") The Chef's had a great time making pizza and other amazing
culinary goodies in our Chez PLAY Cafe.
Our letter of the week was G for
Grace! We made Gorgeous Glittery G's and ate grapes for snack.
Tuesday
was a double birthday day! Happy 3rd Birthday Tegan! Happy 3rd Birthday Shea!
We loved sharing your special day with you!

Community Helpers
What a fun week talking about all of the wonderful people that help us in our community. The class had fun making their own construction hats. They were so proud walking around with their hats on. For Creative Art they also made highways, road signs and skyscrapers. Talking about construction was a huge hit with the class.
Humpty Dumpty was recited all week which was super fun!

Thank you to Dillon's dad, Christian for coming in for Community Helpers Week. Officer Christian spoke to the classes about what Police Officers do to help the community and brought a few pieces of the equipment he uses so that the students could see them.
Thanks Officer Christian and Dillon for sharing his daddy!
