Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Patchin' 09

Patchin' 09 was a huge success.  The raindrops stayed away and it was a wonderful visit to Lee Farms, filled with chicks, goats, bunnies, pigs, apple cider, hay maze, hay rides, beautiful orange pumpkins and of course decadent donuts.  Thank you to everyone that was able to come out and join us for our first annual Patchin' trip!  Till next year!

Picture Day is Tue Oct 27.  You will find an order form in your Friday folder.  Please fill them out and put them in the appropriate class boxes by the front desk.

                        Warmly,

Your PEAKE Academy Teaching Staff

 Fire Art LeahFire Prevention

This week was Fire Prevention Week!  We learned all the ways to be safe around fire and how to prevent one from starting.  We learned not to touch lighters, candles, matches, and stoves, and not to put flammable objects near these things.  We also learned what to do if our clothes catch on fire by reading the book Stop, Drop, and Roll!  On Tuesday Firefighter Kurt, Josie's dad, came in to tell us so much more about fire safety.  When he asked us what we do when our clothes catch fire, Taj replied "We Rock and Roll!"

On Tuesday we also had a fire drill and practiced what to do if there was a real emergency.  We sang the 9-1-1 song to remind us who to call in an emergency and we also learned a song about a Firefighter.  This week we have read so many books, too!  We read A Day With Firefighters, Fire!Fire!, Fire Trucks in Action, Here Come Our Firefighters!, The Kindertown Fire Brigade, and Firefighters A to Z.

In art we made our own firefighter faces, a fiery painting, firefighter necklaces, and colored our own fire engines!

Our letters of the week were "Pp" and "Ff" and we really focused on our newest letter "Pp". Our writing is getting really great! We also did a fire engine worksheet to recognize words that start with the letter "Ff" such as the numbers five, four, and fifty-four!

And our star student this week was... drumroll please... Jack!!!

This week's theme was Fire Safety.  This was a favorite theme for so many of our kids.  Dylan Kellington has been practicing being a firefighter all year, so he has had such a great time sharing all of his firefighting knowledge with us!

We'd like to give a HUGE Thanks to Firefighter Kurt (Josie's Dad) for coming in and teaching us all about fire safety.  The kids really enjoyed seeing his uniform.  He told us what the parts of his uniform are for and that even though he may look very different with it on, it's still firefighter Kurt and we don't need to be afraid.  As Soleil said, "He's not scary!"

We sang lots of songs about fire fighting this week including "Who do you call if there's a fire?",  and "Hurry, Hurry!"  We read so many great fire safety books including,  I am Fire, Fire Truck, and A Visit to the Fire Station.  We did some great "Flame" art, and we finger painted with fire colors, red and yellow, and used a little shaving cream as well.  Andy and Ollie each did manage a little finger dab into the paint.  Charlie and Ellie were pretty much covered in it.

The kids made some amazing buildings with blocks this week.  We used little paper fires on the houses and the firetrucks and firefighters would always come to put the fire out.

In math, we counted spaces between rungs on a tape ladder and we did an activity finding the longest ladders.  We practiced what to do if our clothes catch on fire (Stop, drop, and roll),  we talked about who to call if there is a fire (911), we practiced what to do if there is a fire at school, and we colored a long piece of paper to look like smoke and we practiced crawling under smoke.

Our letter of the week is F.  A perfect fit for talking about fire safety.  We practiced writing F's and coloring firetrucks.  We glued flowers to our big class F.  It looks so pretty.  F is also for feathers and we made feather F's.  F is also for frog and Shea says it is also for "Fooey!"

Thanks again to Firefighter Kurt!  You were amazing and the kids love you!  And Thanks Josie for sharing your Dad with us!
Thanks to everyone who came to the pumpkin patch with us.  It was so fun to play with you at the farm!

Check out the cute kid on the cover of The Washington County Weekly!  It's our very own Andy and his dad playing on the swings!  Wheeeee!

This week in the Toddler Class was HOT!  We made it all! From firefighter hats, to badges, to fire themed art with paints and streamers to even; pin the spots on the dalmation.  WUFF!  Our class is continuing to learn their numbers, 1-5 and we sing our ABC's daily.  Some of the songs we sang this week were the Hokey Pokey and a collection of various firemen songs.  We painted geometric shapes and practiced our counting by singing "Johnny work with one hammer."  Also, our class practiced and talked about the importance of STOP-DROP and ROLL!  We read various fire truck/firemen books and had a fiery time this week!

Firefighter Kurt Parent Involvement

Thank you to Josie's dad, Kurt for coming in for Fire Prevention Week.  Firefighter Kurt spoke to the classes about fire safety, showed the students the type of safety gear he wears and let them see what a firefighter looks like when they wear all that gear (so important, so that they know not to be scared when they need help).

Thanks Firefighter Kurt and Josie for sharing her daddy!
