Health & Safety
We learned about many different ways to be
healthy, such as eating healthy, washing our hands and other good hygeine
practices, getting a lot of sleep, and covering our mouths when we cough and/or
sneeze. We also learned ways to be safe such as not touching ovens or stoves,
fires, electrical sockets, poisonous plants, or chemicals like cleaning
supplies. We even made a collage of these things to remind us,
too!
Since Health and Safety were our focus we studied the letters "Hh"
and "Ss." Each writing group continued to practice lines and curves to help
improve our writing and Miss Danaye and Miss Lindsi were very impressed with how
well the children are doing with their letters! Miss Lindsi's writing group
used shaving cream to decorate the letter "s" and boy did they smell great!
Miss Danaye's writing group practiced writing and tracing snakes to better
understand "S" curves. They also did a snake art project and even wrote "Hiss"
in the call-out bubble.
Miss Lindsi's math group did addition and used
apples on an apple tree for a visual. They also practiced writing their
numbers. Miss Danaye's math group has got their number recognition 1-10 down
pat! Both math groups did a color-by-number from the Oregon Poison Control
Center which also helped us to learn what the poison symbol looks like (we
called it the YUCK face).
We read the books "Bones," "Curious George Goes
to the Hospital," "Electricity," "Pumpkins," and "Apples." We traced our hands
and pasted reminders of when to wash our hands, and we made a healthy meal
collage. What a busy week!

Health & Safety
This week in Preschool, we talked about Staying Safe and Healthy. We read great books like
"Germs Are Not for Sharing" and "Never Talk to Strangers." We
learned about hand washing, how to scrub all over and in between our fingers and
how we sing the ABC song so we wash our hands long enough to make the germs go
BYE BYE. Tegan is a great hand washer!
In art, we made "owie pictures" with
bandaids (There are so many owies on Kristin's picture but don't worry she made
them "all better.") We talked about how to sneeze and cough into a tissue to
help prevent germs from spreading. If there isn't a tissue handy then you can
use the inside of your elbow (we call that your sneeze catcher) to sneeze in.
We had a lot of fun practicing sneezing into our sneeze catchers! Aaren loves
to pretend to sneeze and he does a great job catching those sneezes!
Our letter of the
week is C! We did so many things to celebrate C! We loved painting with cars.
We played with cotton balls and made cotton ball C's. We read a great story
about how crayons are made called "From Wax to Crayon" and then used
crayons for writing and drawing. We did a lot of counting this
week.
Happy Birthday this
week to Ms. Catherine!

Health & Safety
Creative Art: "Cover Your Mouth" (printed mouths and painted their hand and they placed it
upon the open mouth and read "Germs Are Not For Sharing.")
"Twinkly
Stars" (Painted stars various colors and sang, "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star")
"Spotty Marks" (On various colored circles the class used cotton
balls and paint to make bubble designs and they had a blast blowing actual bubbles)
"Pocket
Day" (The kids designed their own pockets and we also had the class select pockets that Ms. Courtney cut out from all sorts of fabrics. They are hung on the wall
so that they can put special things in them)
Corn Play - Sensory Time!!!! We explored and had fun with corn
meal.
ALSO: We practiced coughing into our elbows or sometimes just
covering our mouth and then washing our hands. We played red light/green light
(stop and go running) and talked about how to cross the street. The kids are
loving singing their ABC's during times when they wash their hands and enjoyed
decorating cut out pigs.
