Sept 09 | School Days Friends & Feelings
Week 2 |
Dear PEAKE Academy Families,
Got Folder?
Just a reminder that your child's folder (or mailbox emptied) should be taken home on Friday or your child's last day of attendance for the week. School communications and your child's work can be found in there. Please return the empty folder on Monday or on your child's first day of attendance for the week.
This week in a folder (mailbox) near you, a letter with some important information and our new Family Volunteer system.
Just a reminder: We are a peanut-free school! Our children thank you!
Warmly,
Your PEAKE Academy Teaching Staff |

Friends & Feelings
Our letter of the week was "Ff" for friends and feelings. They also learned about the letter "Gg" in honor of Grandparents, which they made beautiful cards for.
We read "I feel Silly Today," "Big Bird Can Share," "Flip Flap, Flop A," "Book About Self Esteem," "It's My Turn Smudge" and "Pass the Fritters, Critters." The books taught us valuable lessons about our feelings, being a good friend, our moods and how they affect others, sharing, taking turns and having good manners.
Creative Art: Made self-portraits of our feelings, thumb print faces, happy/sad masks and paper doll friends with nice words on them.
We sang, "If You're Happy & You Know It" and did yoga with our friends as partners.
Writing Group 1 wrote the letter of the week and decorated "F's" with five funny faces. Writing Group 2 wrote the letter of the week and "feather." They also deocrated the letter "F" with feathers. Both groups practiced tracing and writing their numbers in math and their number recognition.

Friends & Feelings
We have been getting to know our new class better this week and it is So Much
Fun! In the morning we sing the Hello Song and wave to each of our friends! (I
love to see the look of joy a child expresses when she or he is sung about-pure
cuteness!) Since our theme this week is also about our feelings, we have been
practicing expressing feelings with our faces. "Trying on" faces of feelings is
a great way to learn how to express yourself and be able to recognize what
someone else may be feeling. What a fun way to learn about empathy! Oh and
there is nothing sadder than a class full of kids practicing their sad faces and
nothing scarier than a bunch of kids practicing angry faces! Ashton is
particularly great at showing off his feelings faces! And we must not forget
that sometimes we just feel silly! Don't ya love a classfull of silly kids!
Our letter of the week is B! So we decorated B's with buttons and with
pictures of things that start with B! We did many other activities throughout
the week to let us practice making that B sound. Two of our new favorite songs
are about things that start with B! The Balloon Song and the Bubble Gum song.
They are class favorites so we will probably continue to sing these a lot!
Books we read included Just Me and My Friend, When Sophie Gets
Angry, Really, Really Angry, and David Goes to School, (Thanks Dylan
M. for bringing that in to share with us! In class, we tend to end books with
great applause! Ms. Angie feels like a great celebrity reader when she finishes
a story and "spontaneous" applause happens. If any of you would like that
experience, please let me know! It's great fun and it'll make you feel like a
million bucks!
In Math, we sorted Bugs and counted bug legs. Charlie and
Lou decided it would also be nice to have a pic-nic lunch of bugs. Yum
Yum!
For Art, we made "Sometimes, I feel..." collages, "Shades of Blue"
Collages, and we painted a lot. We painted just to be paintng! How wonderful
to paint just because it is nice to put paint on paper. Grace made two
beautiful monochrome paintings in minutes!
Music time this month is based
on ABC Music and Me's "Out and About" unit. The kids love the train song
especially and Andy starts asking for music time at about 9:15 and Music Time
is almost the last thing we do! We love that kind of enthusiasm!
Thanks so much to Rory for the Beautiful Flowers from the Farmer's
Market!
Thanks also to Rory's, Ryland's and Neil for bringing your
grandparents in for the Grandparent Party. It was nice to see you all!

Friends & Feelings!
The Toddler Class was full of art fun all week long. They did fun projects like a beautiful nature collage, magic prints, and a color book.
During strategy time they talked about how big they are and what hands are for. They read, "Color Dance," "Welcome Fall Book," "My Hands Are Not For Hitting," "Words Are Not For Hurting" and "Rainbow Fish."
Music time they boogied down to ABC Music & Me's "Marvelous Me."
