Me, Myself & I
Week 1
Dear  PEAKE Academy Families,

Welcome to school!  What an incredible 1st week!  You could sense the excitement in the air, feel the learning taking place and see the new friendships being created!  Thank you to each and every one of you for making this an amazing week to kick-off our 2009/2010 school year!

We are lucky to have your child/ren at our school and are looking forward to watching them grow and learn.

If you need anything, please visit one of the following people at the front desk, Sosanda, Kathia, Julia or Kelley.  If you would like to speak with your child's teacher, please leave her a note to schedule a time.  We are excited to build a partnership with each family.

                        Warmly,

Your PEAKE Academy Teaching Staff

PreK 1st Strategy MtgMe, Myself and I!

Our first week of school was filled with non-stop learning and fun!

Our letters of the week were Ii and Mm. We learned the difference between horizontal and vertical lines and read the book "A Bad Case of Stripes" to go along with it.

We used what we learned about horizontal and vertical lines to write the letter Ii and talked a lot about ''I'' representing me.

We did a collage about ''What I Like!'' and had individual interviews about it too. The interviews, along with each child's handprint & string measurement were put into a time capsule that will be opened on the last day of school. We also talked a lot about our bodies and traced & decorated our hands to go with a ''helping hands'' poem, we did yoga to get our bodies moving, and we read the Magic School Bus inside the Human Body.

In math we did number recognition and prek 1 learned to write numbers while prek 2 learned to count with fingers & blocks as well as recognizing longer/shorter & more/less.

Thank you to Taj for the incredible bagels!!!

Me, Myself and IPreschool Story Time

It has been such a Wonderful first week of school!  It has been so great to have some of our "old" friends back and to welcome in so many great new friends too!

We have enjoyed using this theme to get to know more about each other by talking about the things we enjoy, things we can do and what we like about ourselves   For example, Lou likes his nose and his teeth)

Letter of the week:  A   (for Ashton, Andy, Ann, Ashleigh and Aaren. Shea likes to make sure we know his name has an a in it also).   We made Apple trees using A's for trunks, painted A's with Apples and spent a lot of time making the same sound an A makes.

Creative Art:  We made Faces using facial features cut out of magazines, and we made "Our Houses" adding doors and windows to envelopes.   L.J. included a beautiful grassy front lawn.  Ms. Angie wishes her front lawn was so lush.

Science:  We have many objects from outside to look at and touch, including various pinecones and sea shells and an incredible bird's nest brought in to us by Dylan M.  It's so neat to be able to talk about our homes and then to see such a wonderful home that a bird has made.

Stories We Read:  "Biscuit's Day at School," "Mouse's first day of School,"  "What I like about Me," and "Up, Up, Up in an Apple Tree."

Songs We Sang:   "The Hello Song",  "Aligator Pie", "Eyes, Ears, Mouth and Nose", and "If your wearing (blue) today."

Math:  We measured how tall we are using yarn,  and we counted animals.

Language:  We will be doing lots of activities this month  to help us be able to recognize our names and the names of our friends in print.  This week we found apples with our names on them and we painted pictures of our names.

Happy Third Birthday Sabrina!!!  It was wonderful to have you come in and share your special day with us!

Thank you to Soleil for the yummy bagels and cream cheese to kick-off our first week of school.

The Toddler Class had a wonderful week full of art, books, songs and friends!

For Creative Art they made funny faces, color changes, handprints and a color collage.

They read, "Color," "Welcome Fall," "My First Number Book," and "10 Little Mermaids."

They have fun singing "One, Two, Buckel My Shoe," "Colors of the Rainbow," and "Where O' Where Is (insert child's name)?"
