January 2012
runwalkride branding

Greetings!

Whenever I start feeling smug about my knowledge of the thon fundraising field, a reporter will call me up and ask: "How much money is raised this way?"

They appreciate the data provided by our annual Run Walk Ride 30 study, but it doesn't satisfy their desire for an all-inclusive number.  Many are so hungry for a grand total that they push me to estimate (aka make something up.)

I've shied away from developing a figure because the amount of activity out there is mind-boggling.   Whenever I invest a bit of time searching on "charity walks and runs" I'm amazed to find new programs raising anywhere from four- to 7-figure amounts.   Just this morning, for example, I came across

If anyone out there has a good idea for how to approximate the amount of money raised and participants engaged by events beyond the top 30, please be in touch.   I'd love to have an answer to the big question.
