Is That Volunteer an Angel or a Demon?

Greetings!

After reading six dozen nominations for the Cash, Sweat & Tears Award I can asure you that our field is blessed with an abundance of inspiring volunteers.

Unfortunately, not everyone who signs up to raise money for a cause or offers to independently produce an event is an angel.
angel and devil
For example, RutlandHerald.com recently reported on the scandalous case of a Vermont man who claimed he was going to run multiple barefoot marathons to raise millions for homeless teens.

Nurturing the best volunteers and protecting our organizations from unscrupulous characters will be one of the topics we'll explore during the discussion roundtables that are such an important part of the Run Walk Ride Fundraising Conference on March 3 & 4.

Hope you'll join us!

Did You Hear That...

Toronto officials are trying to construct a deal that would have one of the city's two major fall marathons move to the spring because having two events so close together overtaxes the city -- and local runners.  The National Post reports that the events raise millions for charity.

Denver Gorilla Run
Denver's Gorilla Run set a world record last fall for most people dressed as a gorilla in a single location (1,061).  The 3.5 mile run/walk raises money for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund.

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago has ended its relationship with the National AIDS Marathon Training Program and launched its own endurance training program: Team to End AIDS

What Do You Do With Extra T-Shirts? t shirt

As budget-conscious managers, you try not to order too many t-shirts, but you also don't want to run short and leave participants shirtless.

Inevitably, you end up with some leftovers.

Chicago Athlete magazine is encouraging race producers to donate extra shirts for distribution to Haitians in need.  Get the details
