stepsCould you use a Twelve-Step Program?

Greetings!

Thanks to this wretched economy, I imagine you are working harder than ever to bring in the dollars your organization needs.

To help you deal with the stress and be as effective as possible, Convio recently published a 12-step guide to maximizing the fundraising success of your participants.   (You can download it for free)

It's not rocket science, but nearly everyone could benefit from reviewing its tips on goal setting, timing, leveraging social media, adding personal touches and more.

Speaking of valuable advice, "Doing More with Less" is the timely subject of our September 16 teleconference led by Jeff Shuck, CEO of Event 360.   Jeff's one of the most insightful players in our industry so it's a session you won't want to miss.

The economic downturn is taking its toll on fundraising performance for many programs, according to our conversations with organizers and published reports.

The Pan-Mass Challenge, #15 on the RWR Thirty, estimates it will bring in $30 million in individual donations, down from $35 million in 2008.  (Check out this NY Times profile of Billy Starr, the event's founder.)

On the West Coast, AIDS Walk San Francisco raised $3.5 million in July, down from $4.4 million in 2008.

"Every fundraising event is seeing a fairly large reduction. I don't think that's surprising," said San Francisco AIDS Foundation spokeswoman Deborah Holtz said. "What we're really happy about is that so many people participated despite the recession."
Now For Something Completely Differenttricycle challenge

Adding a novelty element to your program can be a great way to generate incremental revenue.

One that recently caught our eye is the Tricycle Challenge, which will be held for the fourth time this fall in Mission, Kansas.  In addition to standard fun run/walks and multiple length rides, Bike 4 the Brain, the sponsoring organization, recruits people to have fun looking quiet silly in this special event.

For a $100 entry fee (often raised by friends), adults get to face off on a minicourse riding a child-size tricycle.
