Underwear Affair Gets Unique Sponsor
Yes, it has the usual array of waters, running shoes and energy bars, but LA's first Underwear Affair boasts a category-breaking presenting sponsor: Jockey underwear.
To promote the 10K run/5K walk to uncover cures for cancers below the waist, Jockey donated enough underwear to hang on a three-block clothesline along Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade. Passersby were welcome to grab a pair along with info on the August 2 event benefitting City of Hope.
Jockey will also activate its sponsorship via signage and by providing merchandise to participants.

Half Marathon's Popularity Grows
The New York Times recently reported on an explosion in the popularity of half marathons.
The growth is fueled by new runners who see the half as less daunting than a full marathon and veteran runners who feel they've "been there and done that" when it comes to the grueling 26.3 mile marathon.
According to Running USA, there were more than 500 half marathons in 2007 involving 650,000 finishers making it the fifth year in a row the event experienced substantial growth.
Tale of the trend? If you haven't incorporated half marathons into your endurance training event, it's time to consider doing so.
