"Strides for Change" Repositioned as "Walk Like MADD"
After much consumer research and the the help of two communications agencies, Mothers Against Drunk Driving has relaunched its 5K walk series.
According to an article in PRWeek, "Focus groups showed that while the walks raised $1.2 million in donations in 2007 thanks to 100,000 participants, few actually knew what the walks were called, and non-participants confused the MADD walks others, such as Susan G. Komen's 'Race for the Cure.'"

Y-ME Changes Name and Launches "Ride to Empower"
On the heels of the success of its
Mother's Day Walk Series, the
Breast Cancer Network of Strength (formerly Y-ME) has launched a "destination" cycling event called the Ride to Empower.
To be held this October in Solvang, California, the ride offers participants fully-supported route lengths ranging from a 100-mile century to less than 32 miles.
Participants are required to raise a minimum of $4,000, and in exchange for successful fundraising efforts, riders will receive airfare (from within the contiguous U.S.), accommodations at a 3-star hotel and all meals.

Hemophilia Pilots Walk Series
The National Hemophilia Foundation is piloting a walk series in five markets starting this June.
On June 1, the foundation will expand on an event it held last year that engaged 250 participants to raise $50,000. This summer and fall walks will be held in Phoenix, AZ, Cary, NC, Houston, TX and Independence, OH.
The national presenting sponsor for the Hemophilia Walk 2008 is Baxter Healthcare. The national premier sponsors are Bayer, CSL Behring and Grifols.
