RUN WALK RIDE SUCCESS
July 2007

Greetings!

Over a month has passed, but the buzz from our first annual conference is still ringing in my ears:

"It was great to have this forum.  FINALLY a way to connect and hear about trends."

"Great opportunity to share experiences and learn from others."

"Nice to learn from others and to see numbers and statistics for these events."

This inaugural newsletter will keep the information flowing about best practices and news in the athletic event fundraising industry and the RWRFC's offerings to support your success.

Ready, set, read on!

Run Walk Ride 30 Study Released
America's 30 largest athletic event fundraising programs generated more than $1.4 billion for charity in 2006, according to our first industry survey.

Study highlights are available online.  Join the RWRFC to receive a study CD full of valuable benchmarking information.
Online: Opportunites & Headaches
The good, the bad and the ugly sides of online fundraising systems were the source of much conference discussion.  Reporter Marla Nobles of The NonProfit Times was there and filed this useful report.
Charity Navigator Study
Back on May 1, Charity Navigator released a study highly critical of the inefficiency of special events fundraising.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy subsequently took Charity Navigator to task by revealing that much of the 990 data that the study was based on was flawed.  Some groups filled out the form in a manner that made their special events appear highly inefficent and others did the opposite.

What's your point of view on this study?  How does your organization deal evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of your athletic event fundraising?

Please email your comments to [email protected] for a follow-up article we're developing.
