Learning Ally - Making reading accessible for all

Dear Members & Friends,

I am delighted to share good news about a close friend and long-time member of Learning Ally, Scott MacIntyre.  Well known around the world as the first ever blind finalist on "American Idol," Scott has a special connection to Learning Ally: he was a National Achievement Award winner in 2005, keynoted our NAA celebration in Washington, DC last year, and continues to be a great celebrity advocate for our mission.

By Faith, Not By Sight Cover Image Scott has just released a new book, By Faith, Not By Sight. We plan to record it soon for Learning Ally members. In this autobiographical book, Scott talks about how he overcame his disability, how he made it in the music industry, how he found the love of his life, and how he learned that in all things, we can truly achieve our dreams.

What many people may not know is that at 19 years old, Scott faced a life-threatening illness and almost lost his life. His contagious spirit of optimism and heartfelt stories will take you on an emotional journey of love and yearning, hardship and hope, from someone who deeply understands the challenge of overcoming enormous adversity - by faith, not by sight. Here is a description from the book jacket:

"Is it possible to be high on a mountain and deep in a valley at the same time?

"This isn't a riddle, it's Scott MacIntyre's life. Each time his dreams come true, Scott finds his nightmares not far behind. Some call it Murphy's Law. Others call it bad luck. Scott has learned to call it a blessing, even when circumstances have threatened to take everything away.

Scott MacIntyre in DC "Outstanding graduate. Marshall scholar. Recording artist. Inspirational speaker. American Idol. Blind from birth, Scott has had to work harder and longer to achieve his goals. But when a silent killer begins to undermine his success, Scott cannot work it out alone. Once again, he must lean on his faith, his close-knit family, and the life-giving aid of friends to survive.

"Follow Scott's roller-coaster ride to see how the mountains and valleys in his life gave him perspective, hope, and ultimately triumph."
