Thailand Naturist Resort Aids Flood Victims
|
Hotels all over Thailand are now offering discounts for Thais who have been affected by the ongoing floods and need to evacuate their homes, including Chan Resort, a new clothing-optional resort in Pattaya. "We have to help our country get through this difficult time," says Chan Konaim, 62, owner of Chan Resort. Currently flood victims are staying at the resort, which refuses to turn anyone away even if guests have to double up.
Chan says since they opened in September, they've had approximately 60 to 80 guests, both Thai and international. And nearly all their guests have either skinny-dipped or sunned themselves around the pool.
Chan believes nudists are the friendliest and kindest people one could find. He also believes they are great repeat customers. Chan says he has found that naturist resorts have higher return customer rates of any type of resort, including golf and tennis resorts.
To get around Thailand's law against public nudity, guests must register at the hotel as if it were a club -- membership is free -- and then use the resort as a private place, which Chan insists is legal.

"Nearly Naked" Race Benefits Burn Victims
| This weekend, some runners near the nation's capital will participate in a race that encourages participants to "represent what it means to feel comfortable in one's own skin" by wearing the bare minimum. The Nearly Naked Mile race in Virginia will be held November 12. The race offers beer to finishers with an after and a before party. The race also benefits the Burn Foundation, which assists injured firefighters and burn patients in the D.C. area. Click here to read more.

Art Installation Allows Viewer Participation
|
Psycho Tank, part of artist Carsten Höller's Experience exhibit at the New Museum in New York City, calls for up to six visitors to disrobe, shower, and float in a highly saline bath in order to provide a unique sensory-deprivation experience.
The New Museum describes the installation as "Visitors will float weightlessly in a sensory deprivation pool, providing a strange out-of-body experience. In these scenarios, as in his other work, Höller treats the viewer as the subject and audience for his radical and disorienting experiments."
Unfortunately, the New York Post reports that the Department of Health has warned the museum that Psycho Tank doesn't have the prerequisite permits the city demands of bathhouses, and from now on only one person is allowed to enjoy the artwork at a time.

The World of Nude Recreation
| The World of Nude Recreation has two new modules, Nudist & Proud and Nudism & Health as well as other topics that nudists can weigh in on.
Read the latest story from the First-Time Nudist Experience section:
New to NudismMy wife and I went on a cruse to the Caribbean in 2007. While there our tour took us to a beach. It was a nude beach and being shy as shy could be, I left my trunks on. I thought my wife was shy too, but not as much as I thought. She couldn't get nude fast enough with the attitude that no one would ever see us again, or even care. So, I tried it too. We both felt the same weight lift off our shoulders as is often described and found ourselves looking for other nude beaches on our trip. This continued after we got back home. We also found San Onofre and then Glen Eden and others. I wish we experienced this 30 years ago. It is hard to explain just how eye-opening and clear life becomes. Mostly we have met great folks and have begun to live life again. My favorite story: So our kids (one son and one daughter) were not so pleased with our new recreational activities, going as far as threatening us to not see our grandkids. They wanted us checked out for mental issues. So as we meet with a Dr. Shrink in Santa Ana, one our son lined up, we found out he is a lifetime nudist, raised in this environment and has vacationed at nudist resorts in Vermont. His wife was very nudist as she would rarely wear clothes at all. Our kids were so shocked! They were not very pleased again. They have come to the beach and a resort with us and carefully checked out who was there and how they reacted to other nudists. Our kids have since become fans too; just very funny to us. -Myron S.
