A new section has been added to the popular user-generated content module the World of Nude Recreation titled Nudism & Health.  

Nudism and health have always been synonymous. The ancient Greeks performed feats of strength and skill during the first Olympics, the earliest documented form of nude recreation. As the colonial era gave way to a free and independent United States of America, "radical thinkers," including Benjamin Franklin, John Quincy Adams and Henry David Thoreau, publicity lauded the benefits in daily naked walks, or as they were called, "air baths."  

Today's nudists recognize the importance of health as well and appreciate the balance of physical and emotional health benefits that nudism provides.

Heidi Klum and Helen Mirren have made headlines recently with comments about nudism,  family values, and body acceptance. Demi Moore is another celebrity who is definitely comfortable in her own skin. The 48-year-old actress, also known for posing nude while pregnant on the cover of Vanity Fair, posted a semi-nude photo of herself on Twitter this week with the caption, "Remember...you've got your own back." In the self-pic, Moore poses from the waist up; only her naked back is visible though she is clearly topless.

It appears that Moore is joining husband Ashton Kutcher, who posed trouserless in an ad campaign for his new show, Two and a Half Men. Kutcher also recently shot the season premiere of Ellen this week wearing only his birthday suit; the show airs this coming Monday.

It is legal to go naked in public in San Francisco, but Supervisor Scott Wiener introduced legislation Tuesday to require nudists to use a towel if they take a seat in public. He also wants to make them cover up when they're in a restaurant. Wiener represents the city's Castro District, where nudists gather and stroll au naturel.

"San Francisco is a liberal and tolerant city, and we pride ourselves on that fact," Wiener said in a statement, according to CBS affiliate KCBS.  "Yet, while we have a variety of views about public nudity, we can all agree that when you sit down naked, you should cover the seat, and that you should cover up when you go into a food establishment," he said.

According to KCBS, Wiener said his office has not received complaints from nudist groups about the proposal. Maybe because nudists are already aware of proper etiquette?

Stand-up paddleboarding is one of the fastest-growing sports in North America, and AANR staff writer Pete Williams has co-authored a cutting-edge book that shows readers how to "SUP" and enjoy a paddleboard workout.  Williams has enjoyed stand-up paddleboarding nude at Passage Key, the barrier island south of St. Petersburg where nude boaters gather. Paddling in the Tampa Bay area, he routinely sees dolphins, manatees, stingrays, and the occasional (small) shark.

"Stand-up paddleboarding would be a natural fit for nudist resorts with ponds and lakes," Williams says. "It's such an incredible feeling. It's really the closest man can get to walking on water."

Williams, who organizes several nude 5K running events, says he'd love to stage a nude stand-up paddleboard race at an AANR club or nude beach.
