ESPN the Magazine Debuts Body Issue
|
Tennis star Serena Williams graces the cover of ESPN the
Magazine's inaugural The Body Issue. Other well-known male and female sports
figures appearing in the issue are from a variety of sports including football,
basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and golf. What's interesting is that the magazine doesn't just include beautiful
bodies. The Body Issue features a 350-pound sumo wrestler, a 112-pound jockey,
a pregnant USA Softball Olympian as well as a photo essay on surgery to repair
a common sports injury. Editor-in-Chief Gary Belsky said that he was interested
in "all the different kinds of bodies that can excel at the highest level of
athletic competition" and wanted to show that "different bodies match with
different sports."
The issue is on newsstands now. Click here to read more and view a video playlist.

Writers Shed Their Threads at White Thorn Lodge
|

Also included in ESPN the Magazine's Body Issue is a
sport very near and dear to many nudists--nude volleyball. ESPN sent two
sports writers to cover the White Thorn Lodge Volleyball Superbowl, which held
its 39th competition last month. The Volleyball Superbowl draws
athletes from all over the country each September. The writers detail their
experiences and those of some of the players in an article titled "No shirts,
no shorts ... lots of service!"

White Thorn Lodge. But you'll have to spring for the print edition to read "WHO
NEEDS UNIS?" a sidebar that talks about AANR and its other affiliated clubs that also
sponsor nude athletic events. |

Calendar Heightens Breast Cancer Awareness
|
October is Breast Cancer
Awareness Month and venues worldwide
are raising money for the fight against this disease. Staff at an Edinburgh, Scotland,
branch of the Marks and Spencer chain posed nude for a calendar to help raise money for breast cancer. The staff
chose a nude calendar to get their message out after a coworker's daughter was
diagnosed with the disease. The calendar's sponsors said the main aim behind the
calendar is to raise awareness of
breast cancer and to encourage both men and women to regularly check for
abnormalities.
