Bagby Hot Springs: A Northwest Gem
|
Oregon is known for its nudist-friendly public lands, and one location that residents and visitors alike enjoy is Bagby Hot Springs.
These natural hot springs are part of the Mt. Hood National Forest Service, and are located among towering firs adjacent to a secluded tributary of the Clackamas River, forty miles southeast of Estacada. The springs offer a unique recreation experience with hand-made tubs and cedar plumbing.
According the the USFS website, "Mt. Hood
National Forest is
currently conducting discussions with naturist advocates to clarify Forest
Service policy at Bagby Hot Springs. Clarification is expected within two
weeks."
Thanks to the considerable efforts of Steve Hubbard and Shirley Gauthier, Gary Larsen,
the Forest Supervisor for Mt.
Hood National
Forest, reiterated his desire to work with AANR
to clarify USFS policy as it relates to nude use at Bagby Hot Springs. Mr.
Larsen stated it is not his intention to ban nude use at the hot springs; however, he feels there needs to
be more clarity of USFS policy in the Bagby Hot Springs area.

AANR Featured in NYT Travel Blog
|
AANR was
featured in last week's New York Times travel blog, In Transit. The
article was written by Michele Higgins who wrote a three-page spread, "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Worries," in 2008 that
appeared in the print edition of the Sunday Travel section.
The new
article, "Shedding Inhibitions (and Clothes)," gives the results of the
Ypartnership/Yankelovich 2009 National Travel Monitor poll which showed that 10
percent of respondents viewed a "resort that offers a nude recreation
experience" was "extremely/very desirable."

Just Add Nudists
|
Marketing Magazine reports that Vincor Canada has launched a nudist campaign in support of its Growers Cider.
Consumers can add their choice of nudist (man or woman, sitting or standing) to a personal photo and share them with friends for a chance to win one of three $500 prizes.
Billboards and transit shelter ads featuring nudists enjoying Growers in outdoor settings, with headlines such as "Being All Natural is Quite Refreshing. And Chilly.," were launched in B.C. and Alberta this summer.
Andy Shortt, founder of HQvB, the agency behind the effort told Marketing Magazine that Growers is a natural and unassuming brand, and "who's more unpretentious than people who don't wear clothes?"

Spanish Race Combines Nudity and Sport
|
One of the most popular nude
races in Europe takes place this weekend: the Sopelana Nudist Race in Spain. ln 1999,
Patxi Ros, sports and naturism lover, mixed both of his favorite hobbies to create "The Sopelana Naturist Race."
This was a pioneer sports event in the Iberic Peninsula because all the running
participants had to run in the nude.
The 5000 meter race takes
place on Barinatxe beach on compact sand at low tide. Categories range from
Men, Women, Veteran (over 40) and Children. This naturist sport event
became the starting signal for similar events in the country where sport
and nudity were simultaneously combined.
