Greetings!
Welcome to the gr June newsletter for
teachers. This month we review some great children's books, suggest fun classroom
projects and have some fantastic competitions for you to enter. We also have an article on the links between classical music and classic
works of literature. And don't forget,
there are hundreds of free teachings notes on our website and great suggestions for using gr in the classroom. If you have any suggestions or comments, we'd love to hear from you. Happy reading! The gr Team |

up close
The genius behind the worldwide bestseller The Shadow of the Wind, Carlos Ruiz Zafon, started his career by writing novels for young adults. His first novel (which was written for young adults) The Prince of Mist has just been published in English. Read our Q&A with Carlos on our website. |
june project In June's gr, teacher Jane Welsh shares some fun ways to incorporate three books into classroom activities: The Gardening Book, Each Peach Pear Plum and Backyard Science. Consider growing a sunflower in the classroom to teach the students about life cycles. Or give them bags with soil, a container and 'mystery seeds' and ask them to track the growth of their plant! |

worth a look this month
This month, Jules Clancy shares her tips on how to create a
family recipe cookbook. This is a great classroom activity with excellent tips
on how to personalise your cookbook. Just ask the children to bring in some
recipes from home and get creative! We've also got an extract from the book of ethical dilemmas Would You Eat Your Cat?. There is plenty of fodder for debate among high school students.

notes online
Head to the new and improved schools section of our website for hundreds of teaching notes, ideas and more! This month, we have added a chapter and teaching notes for the book History's Greatest Hits. Why not download the notes and extract for free - the chapter looks at the history of the bubonic plague. |
