INTRODUCING ~ iSAILBOAT!
No, it's not an app... it's a beautiful new Beneteau 40 and it's the newest addition to our Alameda fleet! She's a two cabin, offshore equipped 40' beauty! Our dock staff is working hard to get her online as soon as possible. We're aiming for the beginning of December. We'll keep you posted!
"We moved to the Bay Area three years ago from St. Louis. After chartering several sailboats from Club Nautique and experiencing the wonderful sailing in the Bay, we decided to buy a boat and join the Club as an owner. My son and I intend to take advantage of the training offered by the Club to "up our game" so that we can enjoy sailing offshore and up and down the California coast. The name of the boat is iSailboat. She will be outfitted with satellite TV. During the Americas Cup races, charterers can not only enjoy the views from the water, but also watch the TV coverage. Anchoring in McCovey Cove for a "tailgate" party and then watching the Giants on HD TV, while enjoying the stadium sounds next door, will add to the experience of a great day's sail. We are really looking forward to participating in Club Nautique. " - iSailboat Owner, Rick Corcoran

NOGGIN BOGGLER WINNER!
You have to play to win! NONE of you opted to respond to our Boggler last week! Either you all know so much you didn't feel like you needed to share... or maybe this is telling us we need to have a bit more of a discussion about overboard recovery:
QUESTIONS (Answers below in Red):
1. You are performing a quick turn recovery: After throwing flotation and shouting "crew overboard" what is your first point of sail? Beam Reach 2. You decide to use the Quick Stop Recovery method: After throwing flotation and shouting "crew overboard". What do you do next? Turn upwind and tack
3. In the bay when performing a Crew Overboard Recovery, on what side of the boat should you approach your victim? Leeward side 4. You are performing a Quick Turn Recovery and upon the final approach you are pointing too high and can't sail the boat back to the victim. What did you probably do wrong?
You turned up too late. 5. What is the number one rule when you have a crew that fell overboard or spot another person in the water needing your help? NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF THE VICTIM. Overboard Recovery Seminar and Talk to be scheduled shortly!

TODAY'S TIP!
When inviting crew to join you on a brisk day on the Bay, be sure to let them know about the weather forecast and remind them, if needed, to bring an extra layer or two. Also, remember the warm beanies that cover the ears are great for keeping body heat where it belongs - in your body. Have a few extra hats to share in case someone has forgotten theirs.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA!
Thanks to Dan Marshall for sending in this action shot of his Basic Cruising class this weekend! Looks like the bad weather didn't stop these guys from having a good time.
Thanks to Dwayne for these shots of this growing trend - these guys are NOT ok with the fact that Hump Nights are over... so we're calling them our band of "Rogue Humpers" ... OK... maybe we need to workshop that name a little... but they sure are having a good time! Let us know if you want to join in the fun and we'll pass your info along to the group.

Now THAT is worth the price of admission, right there!
Sherrie and her happy Basic Cruising students.
This group of students (with instructor extraordinaire, Peter Leib) were tired but happy after a challenging four day Bareboat class. Congratulations to you all!
James shows off his knots at our Open House.
It was so nice to see everyone. Good people, good times!
Thanks to Member, Brian Black for sending this happy photo... looks like Brian is living the dream! Going down the coast of Baja, with the 2011 Ha-ha flotilla. Between Turtle Bay and Bahia Santa Maria, flying the asymmetrical spinnaker. Light winds, but it's moving us well! Also along on the boat, recent CPM graduate Ray Jensen. Now anchored out off Cabo San Lucas, going on towards La Paz tomorrow. - Brian

We got such amazing feedback from the videos that we posted last week. We'll have to make it a regular occurrence! Please be sure to send us your favorites to share.
In regards to the "Boatlift" video, we got this response from Jim Reed: "Thank you for that inspiring piece on the boat lift from Manhattan. It brought back vivid memories of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake here in San Francisco.
I was Port Captain of the Red and White fleet at the time and was sent to the Ferry building to coordinate the evacuation of San Francisco. Since all the bridges and Bart were shutdown for inspection and the Bay Bridge had collapsed the only way out of San Francisco for those that did not have cars was by boat.
With the city blacked out and the smell of gas everywhere there was a continuous crowd of frightened people at the Ferry Building landing trying to get out of the city. I would estimate that there were at any given time, 2,000 to 3,000 people at the gate.
Since the Golden Gate Ferry's that operated out of the electric/hydraulic piers at the Ferry Building and there was no power, the Crowley float at the ferry building that had manual gangways were the only operating facility for ferries to tie up.
I was very proud of the crews from all the boat companies that participated in that evacuation. All ferry boats were free that first night and all the companies and crews worked together to provide emergency service to the public." Thank you for sharing, Jim!

In regards to the Big Boat Series video, I was reminded that not only was our own Corinna out there, but some of our very own instructors were out there as well. I apologize for not mentioning Simon Bell and Peter Leib. I apologize additionally to anyone else of our happy little family that I neglected to recognize. It's not from lack of caring! Congratulations on your "bad-a**ery"... we are in awe!
