Ahoy!
What a weekend! On the way home from Half Moon Bay, I was working out in my head how to market the idea that we had a great time even though we had to motor the whole way down and the whole way back. Just then, a warm 15 knot sea breeze came up and we were treated to probably the best sail I have ever experienced on the California Coast! What a stunner. It couldn't have been more beautiful. That little piece of paradise is going to stay firmly locked in the old memory banks!
Sailing aside, we had a HOOT of a time! The pumpkin carving competition has hit new heights. I was masterfully out-carved, and without hesitation handed the well-deserved trophy over to Jim "Surgeon Fingers" English. I'll humbly head back to carving school and try to win it back next year.
With mild temperatures and steady breezes, this has been a great time to get out on the water. Our last Hump Night in Sausalito this Wednesday night may be just what the doctor ordered!
We hope you have a safe and ghoulish time on Halloween! Keep your eye out for costumed racers and pumpkins in the water during the Great Pumpkin race on Sunday.

QUESTION: You're sailing upon the spooky seas of the San Francisco Bay on an eerie winter's eve. You glance across the ominous night sky and notice that the Alcatraz light just formed a range with the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge. Off of your starboard beam you notice a flashing red light that flashes every six seconds. Use your wickedly good navigational powers determine your latitude and longitude!

TODAY'S TIP!
Ask marinas that you're visiting what type of power they have on the dock - you may need to make sure they have an adapter if the power cord on your boat and the electricity on the dock don't match up.
Most marinas with 50 amp service will have lender pigtails (like the one pictured) that will adapt your 30 amp electric cord to the 50 amp shore power plugin. When calling in advance to reserve your overnight slip, be sure to inquire what kind of power will be available in your slip. If the marina doesn't provide adapters, and you want shore power, you may want to try to borrow one or purchase one before you head away from the dock.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA!
Thanks to Rod for sending the photo of the last Hump Night in Alameda. The gang on board Escapade enjoyed steady breeze and a great sail.
Thanks to Charlie for sending this shot of some of the happy Basic Keelboat graduates from Sausalito this past weekend. Pictured with their instructor, Joe Brandt.

HALF MOON BAY - RENDEZBOO - GOOD TIMES!!!
We had so much fun! We had a great group of people, amazing weather and great cheer! We're already looking forward to next year. There were some devilish pranks going on that will likely find a permanent place in following Rendezvous. Thank you to all of you who put so much effort into your appetizers, so much creativity into your pumpkin carving and enthusiasm in your costumes! You put the rest of us to shame!
Headed out the Gate on Friday we were treated to lots of sunshine.

The overcast skies over the ocean showed signs of burning off. There were mild temperatures but little to no wind.
 Ahoy Wind Symphony!
At the dock there was lots of good cheer and laughter.

Thank goodness Thomas was along to keep everyone hydrated!
Tammy gives Marianne a lesson in B'ing Positive!
The Wind Symphony crew celebrates their 3rd place appetizer win.

The Weisses arrived ~ fashionably late ~ on their own boat, Beso Del Mar.

Aboard an unknown pirate ship, these little marauders were set to keep the whole fleet guessing who was the perpetrator of the undercover drive by duckings.
On Saturday Night at Half Moon Bay Yacht Club, the pumpkin carving competition was very stiff!
Terry and Jo eeked out a third place prize for Best Costume with Jo's charm, her cute little hula outfit and her great set of... coconuts!
Robin Hood and his fair maidens carved out a third place win for Best Pumpkin and second place for best costumes on the vessel Rapture!

The crew of Bear Boat cinched first place in all three categories. Best Appetizer, a brie & pesto number that was to die for! Best Costumes, Rich & Tammy dusted off the pirate costumes from last year, but Jim English and his wife were dressed as buoys! It was a big boating crowd pleaser.

Marianne hands over a very well deserved trophy for the Best Pumpkin. Jim was left back at the dock to continue carving his pumpkin while everyone else went out for a sail on Saturday. Now THAT'S dedication! The winning pumpkin - my photo doesn't do the intricacies of his carving justice. It was a work of art!
Ceremonies were brought to an end with a cheer by our over enthusiastic cheerleader... CLUB NAUTIQUE ROCKS!!!
On Sunday, the sailing couldn't have been more stunning! It was a great weekend. Don can't help but grin while enjoying our unbelievable trip home.
