Ahoy!
Life sure can be magical. Have you ever had one of those days when you just don't want it to end? When the sunshine just seems to shine brighter, the breeze is steady and warm and the company on the boat just seems to gel. Then you laugh into the late evening hours while solving the problems of the world. You wake up after having spent an evening bobbing on the hook and the scenery around you is absolutely breathtaking. You are taken aback by the peaceful sounds of nature and you realize that you have a another whole day ahead of you to do the same. Maybe you'll go for a sail or stop at a waterside restaurant for a nice brunch or lunch. Or maybe you'll get a slip at a local marina and enjoy a walk to a nice dinner out on the town.
We see the glow on your faces when you step off the boat after one of these weekends. We see the lingering hugs and the warmth that grows from having shared such a lovely experience with one another. Heck, we've experienced it more than once ourselves. Life is magical indeed, and boating sure does seem to add to the number of days that have that effect on us.
We're glad to be a part of your magical moments. There are plenty to be had, so get on out there and enjoy them!

NOGGIN BOGGLER WINNER
We selected a winner from the entries submitted. Thank you to all who participated but ultimately we can only have one winner. Congratulations Rick Yanda for winning last week's challenge. Rick will receive a new Club Nautique hat!

QUESTION:
You want to travel directly up wind to a destination 25 n. mi distant. For the conditions expected, your high performance sloop can sail 45 degrees off the true wind with 5 knots of boat speed or 50 degrees off the true wind with 6 knots of boat speed. Assuming no current, no leeway "instantaneous tacks", perfect navigation and constant conditions, which gives the faster passage -- and by how much?
Hint: the solution can be found by graphical, geometric or trigonometric methods. Good luck!

TODAY'S TIP
What's that noise? Keep your sailboat quiet.
Generally when sailing, your boat should be quiet. We don't mean that you shouldn't talk and laugh, we just mean that there shouldn't be much noise coming from your sails. If you hear flapping, identify the source of the noise and adjust things to make it stop. You may have a loose leach line or you may need to pay attention to your trim. When the boat is being noisy, it's letting you in on the fact that something needs to be adjusted.

Would you like to own a new sail or power boat and use charter income and income tax savings to help pay for it? If this concept is interesting to you, let us share a few amazing statistics with you. Belle Soeurs, our new Beneteau 34, which is owned by a retired Big 4 accounting firm partner, has broken every record ever set by a new boat in our fleet. In her first 3 months in the fleet, she chartered at an annual rate of 164 days. As of this writing, she has 25 days of reservations on the books and she's just getting warmed up. Most members haven't even seen her yet (she's rarely sitting in her slip to be seen), let alone had the opportunity to sail her.
To put this in perspective, most boats create positive cash flow with 50-75 days of charter per year. Belle Soeurs is more than doubling that! Want some more good reasons to put a boat in the fleet now? Here are just a few major reasons:
- Our fleet is older than it's ever been and we need to bring in new boats & move old ones out.
- Boat loan interest rates are the lowest they've been in history. We just did a charter boat loan at 4.25% fixed for 15 years with no points, fees, or penalties.
- There are a limited number of Beneteaus in factory inventory on sale with factory discounts up to $26,500. These boats are 2012 hull numbers at 2011 pricing.
- The America's Cup is coming to San Francisco Bay. What do you think that's going to do to charter activity?
- If you have a large bonus or want to exercise stock options in 2011 and shelter them from taxes, you can write off up to 100% of the boat purchase this year. This option expires on 12/31/11. This write off is not subject to alternative minimum tax calculations!
- Charter boat owners get free memberships and free dues and of course, they don't pay to sail their own boats.
- If you want the tax benefits in 2011, you must take delivery in 2011 and for some models, deliveries are close to year end. It's time to get your order in now.
There are more good reasons, but you get the idea. If you'd like detailed information on how this can work for YOU, contact Jerry, Dave, or Don, today!
