Greetings!
Stepping outside of your comfort zone is sometimes a huge part of growing. That first time you do something that you're not accustomed to you may feel a bit anxious. That's natural. Sailing tends to challenge you with those moments. Do you remember the first time you really understood reefing? You likely noticed how the boat settled down and the concept of less sail area made so much more sense. Or how about the first time you spent the night on the hook? When you woke up to the sound of water lapping against the side of the hull and you sipped coffee while watching the mist rise off of the silky calm water? You likely had one of those "a-ha!" moments - THIS is why I do this.
When you face challenges, all the training that you've had jells and your sailing lifestyle takes over. It becomes a part of who you are. These hurdles, whether they go smoothly or with a few bumps, solidify the fact that you're a sailor. You're out there learning, making it happen and enjoying the fruits of your efforts. Take that leap - step outside of your zone and enjoy it!

BEST WISHES TO DANIEL!

We're sorry to announce that Daniel Glennon, who has served as a Membership Director at Club Nautique for nine years, has left the club for health reasons. Relaxation certainly agrees with him. He is looking more and more healthy and is doing just fine, but the doctor has recommended very minimal exertion.
We'll miss Daniel's love for sailing and his enthusiastic efforts to share the lifestyle with everyone he met. We're keeping our fingers crossed that he can one day return to the Club Nautique family.
We'll be happy to pass along your well wishes.

NOGGIN BOGGLER
Simply reply to this email with your answer to the following nautical Noggin-Boggler. There is no need to change the subject line, just hit reply and send your answer. Club Nautique will choose the winner for this week's Boggler randomly from all of the correct entries. Please respond by 8am on Monday, August 22nd.
From Fleet Manager, Jerry Nassoiy
The "three minute rule" is a simple way to calculate how much ground you will cover in a period of time. It's particularly helpful in eyeballing how much time you have before say, having to tack, or hitting a large object.
Three minute rule - However fast you're going, put two zeros after it and that's how far, in yards, you will travel in 3 minutes.
QUESTION:
Let's say that I was traveling at 5 knots and there's buoy in my path in about 400 yards (4 football fields). It only takes me three minutes to put on my foulies - do I have three minutes to go down below and put on my foulies before I need to jibe? Explain your answer.
 | | Just FYI - Don didn't hit anything, we're just using a pretty photo of his boat. |
Winner will receive an attractive Club Nautique Hat.

TODAY'S TIP
When pre-cruising your boat, start your engine to ensure it is operational as soon as you get onboard. Furl and unfurl the sails to make sure that they aren't jammed or damaged. The sooner we identify any issues, the sooner we'll be able to get you out on the water.

CPM CORNER
This week's Coastal Passage Making trip was all about the ladies. We've watched these two powerful women work their way through our challenging program. It's been a joy to be a part of their journey and an honor to welcome them to the elite few that can call themselves graduates of the country's most extensive Coastal Passage Making program. A hearty congratulations to Chris Hagen and Meleah Larroca.
Chris and her crew of ringers, Graham, Julie, Chris and Ryan.
Meleah and School Director Thomas.
Meleah is showing off her "Duck-bearing compass"
Meleah and her all-star team: Dwayne, Meleah, Dirk, Renee and Larry.
The crew of Escapade: Instructor Aki, Steve, Yves, Brad, Randy and Donald
Our pretty poster girls!

Apparently there was a disagreement between skipper and navigator.

Dwayne really was having fun... really!

Be sure to ask Meleah about her duck-bearing compass!
It's the new wave of navigation!

CLUB NAUTIQUE NEEDS NEW BOATS!
Would you like to own a new sail or power boat and use charter income and income tax savings to help pay for it? If this concept is interesting to you, let us share a few amazing statistics with you. Belle Soeurs, our new Beneteau 34, which is owned by a retired Big 4 accounting firm partner, has broken every record ever set by a new boat in our fleet. In her first 3 months in the fleet, she chartered at an annual rate of 164 days. As of this writing, she has 25 days of reservations on the books and she's just getting warmed up. Most members haven't even seen her yet (she's rarely sitting in her slip to be seen), let alone had the opportunity to sail her.
To put this in perspective, most boats create positive cash flow with 50-75 days of charter per year. Belle Soeurs is more than doubling that! Want some more good reasons to put a boat in the fleet now? Here are just a few major reasons:
- Our fleet is older than it's ever been and we need to bring in new boats & move old ones out.
- Boat loan interest rates are the lowest they've been in history. We just did a charter boat loan at 4.25% fixed for 15 years with no points, fees, or penalties.
- There are a limited number of Beneteaus in factory inventory on sale with factory discounts up to $26,500. These boats are 2012 hull numbers at 2011 pricing.
- The America's Cup is coming to San Francisco Bay. What do you think that's going to do to charter activity?
- If you have a large bonus or want to exercise stock options in 2011 and shelter them from taxes, you can write off up to 100% of the boat purchase this year. This option expires on 12/31/11. This write off is not subject to alternative minimum tax calculations!
- Charter boat owners get free memberships and free dues and of course, they don't pay to sail their own boats.
- If you want the tax benefits in 2011, you must take delivery in 2011 and for some models, deliveries are close to year end. It's time to get your order in now.
There are more good reasons, but you get the idea. If you'd like detailed information on how this can work for YOU, contact Jerry, Dave, or Don, today!
