Greetings!
We're so excited about our trip this weekend. We'll be headed to Petaluma with a gaggle of Nautiquers. If you're in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by! We'll be cock-tailing on the dock on Friday evening til about 7pm - bring something to share. We'd love to see you!
I was reminded about social responsibility - it's a good thing to be reminded about. While I LOVE the idea of launching water balloons, they do leave debris behind and can be potentially harmful to the environment. I can respect that; I can also respect the fact that they can wreak some pretty damaging havoc to unsuspecting victims. So... while my inner child desperately wants to engage in balloon warfare, my socially responsible adult exterior will respect the dangers. The balloon launcher will be left back at the dock.
The super soaker, however, will be very present. Rules of engagement will be firmly established as to not harm any cameras, phones or laptops. This way, my inner child will be satiated and all will be right with the world! See you on the water!

Sausalito Departure
Sunday, August 14th - Meet at 0930
The folks that brunched at The Ramp had a wonderful time. This time, we're sending you to the infamous Sam's in Tiburon.
This is a CharterShare event with a fixed price of $75 per member. Everyone meets at the club at 0930 and will be assigned boats just like Hump Nights. Each time we'll visit a different waterfront restaurant for brunch, so you don't have to put up with our cooking. If you want to put together your own group, that's fine too. You can either go on the assigned boat, or charter your own and tag along.

TODAYS TIP!
Bring a tarp or umbrella for shade
Unless you have a bimini top, there aren't a whole lot of places to hide from the sun on most sailboats. If you plan to be at anchor or at a dock on a sunny day, you may want to add a big umbrella to your charter bag. The Anchorshade II is a great sturdy shade that has a rubber stop on the base to keep it from slipping and straps that span out from each corner to secure it into place. It tends to be on the more expensive side. You can also get yourself a tarp and add a few extra bungee cords to your sail bag to do the trick. Sometimes, a little shade is just what the doctor ordered!

NOGGIN BOGGLER WINNER
We selected a winner from the entries submitted. Thank you to all who participated but ultimately we can only have one winner.
Congratulations Varshal Dave for winning last week's challenge! Varshal will receive an attractive Club Nautique hat of his choice.
QUESTION: Provided by Arnstein Mustad What makes the starboard light red? The lens, or the bulb? ANSWER: We tried to tip you off by telling you that the question was provided by number one trickster, Arnstein Mustad. This was a trick question.
While typically it is the lens that provides the color in a running light, there are colored led bulbs that produce the same effect.
More importantly, the STARBOARD light is GREEN! So in this case, the answer is neither.

NOGGIN BOGGLER
Simply reply to this email with your answer to the following nautical Noggin-Boggler. There is no need to change the subject line, just hit reply and send your answer. Club Nautique will choose the winner for this week's Boggler randomly from all of the correct entries. Please respond by 8am on Monday, August 8th.
QUESTION:
What is the well known formula for solving speed, time and distance problems in navigation? How far would you travel in 2 hours and 30 minutes cruising at 6 knots - with no outside influence involved, of course?

CLUB NAUTIQUE NEEDS NEW BOATS!
Would you like to own a new sail or power boat and use charter income and income tax savings to help pay for it? If this concept is interesting to you, let us share a few amazing statistics with you. Belle Soeurs, our new Beneteau 34, which is owned by a retired Big 4 accounting firm partner, has broken every record ever set by a new boat in our fleet. In her first 3 months in the fleet, she chartered at an annual rate of 164 days. As of this writing, she has 25 days of reservations on the books and she's just getting warmed up. Most members haven't even seen her yet (she's rarely sitting in her slip to be seen), let alone had the opportunity to sail her.
To put this in perspective, most boats create positive cash flow with 50-75 days of charter per year. Belle Soeurs is more than doubling that! Want some more good reasons to put a boat in the fleet now? Here are just a few major reasons:
- Our fleet is older than it's ever been and we need to bring in new boats & move old ones out.
- Boat loan interest rates are the lowest they've been in history. We just did a charter boat loan at 4.25% fixed for 15 years with no points, fees, or penalties.
- There are a limited number of Beneteaus in factory inventory on sale with factory discounts up to $26,500. These boats are 2012 hull numbers at 2011 pricing.
- The America's Cup is coming to San Francisco Bay. What do you think that's going to do to charter activity?
- If you have a large bonus or want to exercise stock options in 2011 and shelter them from taxes, you can write off up to 100% of the boat purchase this year. This option expires on 12/31/11. This write off is not subject to alternative minimum tax calculations!
- Charter boat owners get free memberships and free dues and of course, they don't pay to sail their own boats.
- If you want the tax benefits in 2011, you must take delivery in 2011 and for some models, deliveries are close to year end. It's time to get your order in now.
There are more good reasons, but you get the idea. If you'd like detailed information on how this can work for YOU, contact Jerry, Dave, or Don, today!
